Hood Patents (Class 396/534)
  • Patent number: 6176626
Abstract: A camera has a barrier assembly that comprises an integrated lens cover/light hood, and a rotatable door. The assembly is movable between an open and a closed position. The assembly functions as a protective barrier for the camera's picture-taking lens when disposed in the closed position. The door is located within an aperture defined by the lens cover/light hood when the assembly is closed. The door rotates away from the aperture as the assembly translates to the open position. The aperture is substantially aligned with the optical axis of the picture-taking lens as the assembly reaches its open position, thereby allowing ambient light to reach the picture-taking lens. The lens cover/light hood isolates the lens from ambient light outside the field of view of the lens when the assembly is in its open position.

  • Patent number: 6104887
Abstract: Disclosed is a lens hood including a cylindrical body that is mounted to a lens barrel of the camera. An accessing opening is formed on the cylindrical body. In order to cover the accessing opening, a cover piece is detachably attached to the cylindrical body. When the cover piece is attached to the cylindrical body, the cover piece forms a part of a circumference of said cylindrical body.

  • Patent number: 5987263
Abstract: A camera comprises a photographing optical system, and a cover for covering the photographing optical system, and the cover is supported turnably about a rotating axis which is neither parallel nor perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of a camera body, and is operative to selectively open and close by turning about the rotating axis. Part of the cover is positioned by coming into abutment with part of a front exterior portion of the camera, so that the cover is held in a predetermined opened state. The cover is provided with a flash device, and when the cover is in an opened state, the flash device is moved away from the photographing optical system so that a red-eye phenomenon is prevented from easily occurring.

  • Patent number: 5884113
Abstract: A photographic device such as a camera having a camera body with a first side having a lens mounting device and a second side having a mounting device arranged to mount a film cassette or a rear camera body cover. The second side is located opposite to the first side. The rear camera body cover is attachable to the cover mounting device of the camera body and the cover has an inner side facing the camera body and an outer side opposite to the inner side. The film cassette is attachable to the cover mounting device of the camera body when the rear camera body cover is detached from the cover mounting device. The film cassette is arranged to carry a roll of film and to keep a film frame of the film in a flat state facing the camera body. The device further has an interchangeable lens and an extendable lens hood. The cover further has at least one opening arranged in a location corresponding to one corner or side of the film frame.

  • Patent number: 5784208
Abstract: A lens hood which is mountable on a lens barrel of a camera or other optical apparatus. Plural projections are provided on a generally tubular surface of the lens hood and project in radial directions with respect to the optical axis of the camera. The plural projections are formed at the side of lens hood which mounts on the lens barrel, thereby stabilizing the lens barrel and the lens hood when placed on a flat surface and facilitating the mounting of the lens hood on the lens barrel.

  • Patent number: 5745803
Abstract: A pair of overlapping semi-cylindrical hood members are driven within a zoom lens barrel to slide in the direction of the optical axis, forming a substantially cylindrical lens hood, according to a zooming position of the zoom lens in a telephoto range, and to swing away from one another, forming a flared lens hood, according to a zooming position of the zoom lens in a wide angle range. The hood members are first slid to a maximum extension amount before swinging out in the case of a zooming position in the wide angle range. A detection switch detects when the hood members have been extended to the maximum extension amount. A control device detects the condition of the detection switch and the zooming position of the zoom lens, and controls the position and opening amount of the lens hood accordingly.
