One Transmitter, Plural Receivers Patents (Class 398/153)
  • Patent number: 11411645
Abstract: A signal switch comprises a switch arrangement for selectively passing optical wireless communication, OWC, signals received from a plurality of photodetectors for output to an external device. A signal strength detector is arranged to measure a signal strength of OWC signals as passed by the switch arrangement. While an OWC signal received from a first one of the photodetectors with a signal strength is being passed by the switch arrangement, a selection unit controls the switch arrangement to pass a combination of the OWC signal from the first photodetector and the OWC signal from another photodetector, determines a signal strength of the combination of OWC signals, and estimates the signal strength of the OWC signal from the other photodetector based on the signal strength of the OWC signal from the first photodetector and the signal strength of the combination of OWC signals.

Abstract: This concerns a protected long-reach PON having a plurality of terminals connected to a distribution network that is fed by both a main and back up feed, each feed including a head end and a repeater. The back up head end had access to a ranging table with data previously obtained by the main head end, thereby speeding up the switch over in the event of a fault with the main feed. In one embodiment, the repeater has a virtual ONU therein, allowing the back up repeater to be ranged by the back up head end, thereby yet further speeding up the ranging procedure. The main and back up repeaters are sufficiently equidistant from the distribution network to allow the back up head to perform normal scheduling without performing a ranging operation on each of the terminals, even if the different terminals transmit at slightly different wavelengths. This is achieved using the ranging information obtained with regard to the back up repeater.

  • Patent number: 8213807
Abstract: A tunable photonic channelizer includes an optical signal generator and an optical modulator. The optical modulator receives a first optical signal as an input from the optical signal generator and modulates the first optical signal to create a second optical signal. The tunable photonic channelizer includes an optical filter that is selectively tunable. The optical filter receives the second optical signal, filters the second optical signal, provides a third optical signal as a filtered version of the second optical signal. The tunable photonic channelizer includes a feedback loop between the optical filter and the optical signal generator to provide temperature and/or environmental feedback from the optical filter to the optical signal generator to enable the first optical signal to float in relation to the temperature and/or environmental feedback.

  • Patent number: 8184976
Abstract: The passive optical network includes a master station and slave stations connected via an optical fiber network including an optical splitter and a plurality of optical fibers. The master station includes a bandwidth control unit which decides a volume of a transmission signal to be granted to each slave station in every first period and in accordance with a request from the slave station, and a transmission timing control unit which decides, in one of a plurality of second periods and in accordance with the decided volume of the signal, transmission timing in which the slave station should transmit a signal. When the signal is to be transmitted by division over the plurality of second periods, the bandwidth control unit or the transmission timing control unit is controlled based on a volume of a signal to be attached by division processing, so that the granted signal can be transmitted in the first period.

Abstract: There is provided a wavelength division multiplexing transmission system and apparatuses used therein, in which a remote apparatus to be newly added to a station apparatus autonomously sets a wavelength to be used in the remote apparatus, thereby avoiding the need for presetting a wavelength to be used in the remote apparatus. The remote apparatus includes wavelength determining means that determines an available wavelength on the basis of an optical signal received from the station apparatus. The wavelength determining means may determine the wavelength of an unreceived optical signal as the available wavelength or may determine the wavelength of a received optical signal as the available wavelength, and may set that wavelength as a transmission and reception wavelength to be used in the remote apparatus.

Abstract: A first transistor may be provided on a current path of a photo transistor. The bias current path may include a bias switch and a first bias resistor connected in series and is provided in parallel with a main current path including the phototransistor. A second transistor may configure a current mirror circuit with the first transistor, and generates second current formed by multiplying the first current flowing in the first transistor by a predetermined factor. The second current is charged in the charging capacitor and converted into a voltage. The bias current path turns on prior to the start of light reception of the phototransistor and turns off after a predetermined period has elapsed from the start of light reception of the phototransistor.

  • Patent number: 8045859
Abstract: An underwater data transmission system including arrays of nano-meter scaled photon emitters and sensors on an outer surface of an underwater platform. For the emitters, a laser is pulsed to correlate with data packets, providing a beam of photons at a prescribed frequency. Nano-scaled collecting lenses channel the incoming photons to photo-receptors located at a focal plane for the frequency at the base of each lens. A coating on the lenses absorbs photons at the frequency that are not aligned with the longitudinal axes of the lenses or tubes. Nano-wires connect the photo-receptors to a light intensity integrator. The integrator integrates the intensity over a surface area. The output of the integrator is fed to a signal processor to track and process the arriving digital packets.

  • Patent number: 7945168
Abstract: Photonic signals are tagged with a pre-selected modification, such as a polarization signature to carry data across an obstructed path between sender and receiver. Communication authentication through polarization variation allows for Yuen-Kumar or entangled photon quantum communication protocols to propagate through environmental scattering media such as air, smoke, fog, rain, and water. While ultraviolet light photons are well suited as a carrier for quantum communication signals scattered in air, it is appreciated that visible wavelengths have longer propagation paths in water to convey non-line-of-sight data. A secure signal is scattered by the media and simultaneously communicated to a single recipient or multiple recipients exposed to scattered signal portions. A process of solving the scattering processes through a random scattering media is provided to reconstruct a quantum keyed message at a receiver.
