The gloss detecting unit is configured to detect a glossy portion of the document based on images scanned at the first illumination position and the second illumination position. The glossy information processing unit is configured to perform a predetermined process by using information represented by the detected glossy portion.

An operation device calculates the deviation amount with respect to a reference position of the sheet transfer position from a difference between the light volume detected by the light volume detection device when the sheet is not present at the sheet transfer position and the light volume detected by the light volume detection device when the sheet is transferred to the sheet transfer position.

    Abstract: An image scanner includes a single contact glass placed on a main body. The contact glass has a first range through which a first original document is passed to be scanned, and a second range over which a second original document is placed to be scanned. An image sensor scans the first original document at a fixed position in the first range, and the image sensor scans the second original document while the image sensor moves through the second range. An automatic document feeder is arranged on the first range of the contact glass to introduce the first original document through an introducing path to the fixed position and to eject the first original document through an ejecting path from the fixed position. The introducing path is formed from an introducing orifice to the fixed position, the introducing orifice being located at a side of the second range of the automatic document feeder. Further, an ejecting path is formed from the fixed position to an ejecting orifice.

    Abstract: A conveying unit conveys a recording sheet in a sheet conveying direction. A carriage includes a processing unit including an image carrier which is rotated about a rotational axis parallel to the sheet conveying direction. The processing unit forms a latent image on the image carrier by electrically charging and developing the latent image so as to produce a developed image. A transfer unit transfers the developed image on the image carrier to the recording sheet as a result of inserting the recording paper between the image carrier and said transfer unit as the carriage moves on the recording sheet in a carriage moving direction. A fixing unit fixes the developed image onto the recording sheet, and a supporting member rotatably supports the processing unit and the fixing unit. A moving unit moves the carriage in the carriage moving direction which is perpendicular to the sheet conveying direction.
