Patent number: 8422932Abstract: This invention provides a method to strip a media sheet that is adhered to an image carrying belt surface so that the sheet can follow the subsequent intended path through a marking system. The belt can be a photoconductor belt or an intermediate transfer belt. The stripping feature of this invention is located movably adjacent to a back-up roll in a transfer station of the marking system. The stripping feature has a radiused belt contact portion. After the sheet has an image transferred thereon from the belt, sometimes the sheet adheres to the belt, which can be disruptive to the system. This invention provides that the stripping feature can be selectively deployed so that its radiused belt contact portion presses against the inside of the image carrying belt, thus temporarily deforming the belt and thereby causing the sheet to release therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2010Date of Patent: April 16, 2013Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Moore R Steven

Patent number: 5978613Abstract: An apparatus is provided in a printer to prevent wrapping of the paper web onto the printer's fixing roller which fixes the toner particles onto the paper web. The apparatus includes a sensor to monitor the speed and moving direction of the web at the output of the fixing station. The sensor is connected to a controller which operates to halt the operation of the fixing station or the printer when the sensor senses a reversal of the moving direction of the web. The controller may average the web moving speed and compare the average speed to a predetermined speed for halting printer operation if the average speed traverses the predetermined speed.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1998Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: Oce Printing Systems GmbHInventors: Norbert Mendisch, Franz Hintler, Gerhard Lodermann

Patent number: 5886729Abstract: A sheet supply apparatus according to the present invention has a pawl separator for separating sheets one by one by regulating the tip ends and upper surfaces of tip end portions of the sheets, which pawl separator can be retarded from a sheet regulating position when it is urged by the sheet with a predetermined force. With this arrangement, sheets having small resiliency such as plain sheets are separated one by one by successively riding over the pawl separator, and sheets having great resiliency such as post cards and envelopes urge the pawl separator to a retracted position to pass through the pawl separator and are separated one by one by of another separation.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1997Date of Patent: March 23, 1999Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Soichi Hiramatsu, Atsushi Noda, Akira Miyakawa, Hideki Yamaguchi, Hiroyuki Inoue, Kenji Kawazoe, Takashi Nojima, Tetsuya Ishikawa, Hitoshi Nakamura, Akira Kida, Hideaki Kawakami

Patent number: 5848319Abstract: An image forming apparatus and a fixing device used therein capable of discriminating transport condition of a sheet in the fixing device without sheet sensors. The fixing device is provided with a fixing roller for heating unfixed toner borne on a sheet and fixing the toner onto the sheet. A temperature sensor is arranged for detecting the temperature of the fixing roller, which temperature sensor communicating with a controller of the image forming apparatus or the fixing device. The controller discriminates the transport condition of the sheet based on the temperature change of the fixing roller detected by the temperature sensor so as to execute varied control.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1997Date of Patent: December 8, 1998Assignee: Minolta Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yuusuke Morigami, Tetsuro Ito

Patent number: 5809389Abstract: A fixing device has a fixing roller, a press member disposed in a press state in an axial direction of the fixing roller on the periphery surface thereof, and a transport guide for guiding transport of paper. The press member is formed so that the free height of a guide part on an upstream side with respect to the transport direction of the paper is lower than that of the pressure portion pressed to the fixing roller via a heat resistant sheet. Therefore, since the apparent elasticity hardness of the pressure portion can be made relatively small, the nip width formed by the fixing roller and the press member can be made large. Consequently, the fixing of toner to the paper is improved. Even when, for example, a thin sheet of paper or an envelope is used as the paper, the fixing device can suppress the occurrence of paper jam, such as paper lodging, and improper paper insertion.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1996Date of Patent: September 15, 1998Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Toshihiro Tamura, Toshiaki Kagawa, Shogo Yokota

Patent number: 5708946Abstract: A fuser assembly including a pair of rollers in nip relation to transport a receiver member along a travel path therebetween and permanently fix a marking particle image to a such a transported receiver member, a skive mechanism for stripping a receiver member adhering to a fuser assembly roller from such roller, and a mounting for the skive mechanism. The skive mechanism mounting includes a support for the skive mechanism. The skive mechanism is selectively moved about the support mechanism into operative relation with the roller of the fuser assembly adjacent to the travel path. The skive mechanism is urged in a direction, in opposition to the selective movement of the skive mechanism, from operative relation with the roller of the fuser assembly toward a location remote from the travel path, whereby clearance of a receiver member jam in the fuser assembly is facilitated.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1996Date of Patent: January 13, 1998Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: David F.
