  • Patent number: 8649695
Abstract: A color image forming machine is provided having a plurality of xerographic marking engines, each forming associated color separations that are combined to produce a color print image. Each marking engine includes two independently controlled developers using toners of the same color and strength of color but with different fused gloss characteristics, in that one of the toners will produce a print with a comparatively lower gloss and the other will produce a print with a comparatively higher gloss, thereby providing a greater control over the range of the gloss of the output print.

  • Patent number: 8620188
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a first image carrier forming a black toner image, a plurality of second image carriers forming a yellow, magenta, or cyan toner image, a third image carrier forming a special color toner image, and a transfer target member or an intermediate transfer belt. The apparatus further includes first and second detachment units. The first detachment unit detaches only the third image carrier from the transfer target member, and the second detachment unit detaches the second image carriers and the third image carrier. When switching from a special color image mode to either a normal color image mode or a monochrome image mode is performed during continuous printing of the recording media, the first detachment unit or the second detachment unit controls the detachment operation based on the number of recording media continuously printed by the normal color image mode or the monochrome image mode.

  • Patent number: 8548360
Abstract: A toner cartridge converting device is provided with a driving module to change gaps between a photoreceptor drum and respective toner cartridges using a positioning groove formed in a radial direction of the photoreceptor drum. Each fixing rod of the toner cartridges can slide into the positioning groove and slide out of the positioning groove with following the displacement of the groove, so that the converting operation to the toner cartridges can be finished. Due to the configuration space required by the driving module is smaller, and the quantity of elements is less than the conventional driving unit and easy in repair and maintenance, so that the structure of the driving module is simplified and the repair cost is reduced.

Abstract: A toner pattern is detected by a color misregistration detection sensor to detect a duration of contact between a development roller and a photosensitive drum. A contact/separation motor for driving the development roller is accelerated or decelerated based on the detected duration of contact between the development roller and the photosensitive drum. This control enables shortening the duration of contact between the development roller and the photosensitive drum, thus reducing the shortening of their lifetime.

Abstract: In an image forming apparatus, a first photoconductor drum for use in at least in a monochrome printing mode is located upstream, in a direction of transport of a medium, of a plurality of second photoconductor drums for use in a color printing mode. A transfer bias for each of transfer members is regulated in such a manner that a transfer bias applied in the monochrome printing mode between a second photoconductor drum located adjacently downstream of the first photoconductor drum and the corresponding transfer member is larger than that applied in the color printing mode. A developing bias for each of the development rollers is regulated in such a manner that an absolute value of a developing bias voltage applied to a development roller corresponding to the first photoconductor drum in the monochrome printing mode is smaller than that applied in the color printing mode.

Abstract: The present application is directed to methods for transitioning between color printing and black-only printing in an image forming device. A cartridge is moved between a first position in which color printing may occur and a second position in which black-only printing may occur. In the first position, a color developer unit may be in contact with a color photoconductor unit. The color developer unit may be spaced from the color photoconductor unit in the second position. During the transition, a voltage supplied to the cartridge and a speed of a drive motor driving the cartridge may be adjusted.
