  • Publication number: 20020101493
Abstract: A driving means 6 is placed below a photoconductor drum 2. The driving means 6 includes first to fourth developing rollers 13A-13D and toner storage chambers 11A-11D. The developing means 6 can be shifted by a developing-device moving motor 9 to bring one of the developing rollers 13A-13D which corresponds to one of liquid toners 12A-12D to be developed in close to the photoconductor drum 2, followed by developing a latent image formed by an exposure. At this time, the distance between one of the developing rollers 13A-13D and the photoconductor drum 2 can be appropriately adjusted. In addition, before the development, meniscus of the liquid toner is quickly formed between the developing rollers 13A-13D and the photoconductor drum 2 by rotating the development rollers 13A-13 at the rotation speed higher than the rotation speed thereof at the development.

  • Patent number: 6178303
Abstract: A developing apparatus includes: a first rotary member; a second rotary member having an elastic surface and adapted to be rotated in contact with the first rotary member. A contact depth controlling roller is kept in rotative free engagement with each end of a shaft of the second rotary member and having an outer circumferential surface abutting against the first rotary member and an inner circumferential surface abutting against the shaft of the second rotary member for keeping a contact depth of the second rotary member abutting against the first rotary member at a predetermined level. A controller is provided so as to rotate the second rotary. This structure, for example, eliminates the need for bearings.

  • Patent number: 6016411
Abstract: A developing apparatus comprises a development housing containing developer and disposed opposite to a carrier for carrying a latent image, and a developing roller rotatably provided in the development housing and rotatively driven in a predetermined direction. The developer in the development housing is carried by the developing roller and the developer carried by the developing roller is applied to the carrier through an opening formed in the development housing. A rotation speed F.beta. of the developing roller is higher than a movement speed F.alpha. of the carrier. A gap .beta. between an opening downstream side wall portion of the development housing and the developing roller is greater than a gap .alpha. between the opening downstream side wall portion and the carrier.

  • Patent number: 5999779
Abstract: A developing device for developing a latent image electrostatically formed on an image carrier includes an endless developing belt, and an applicator roller for applying a viscous developing liquid consisting of a dielectric carrier liquid and toner dispersed in the carrier liquid to the developing belt in the form of a thin layer. The developing liquid is transferred from the developing belt to the image carrier for developing the latent image. The applicator roller holds a preselected amount of the developing liquid thereon, contacts a portion of the developing belt not pressed from the rear side, and rotates in a direction opposite to a direction in which the developing belt moves. The device is therefore capable of uniformly applying the developing liquid to the developing belt and thereby improving image quality.

  • Patent number: 5839021
Abstract: The developing unit of an electrostatic printer is designed to avoid under-development of the bottom part of a dark latent image due to a reduction in recycled toner. This can be accomplished by providing the developing unit with one developing roller and at least two supply rollers. Alternatively, the developing unit has just one supply roller, but the rate at which toner is transferred from the supply roller to the developing roller can be switched. As another alternative, the supply roller and developing roller are designed to turn slowly enough that development of an entire page is completely developed before reaching the point where under-development would begin.
