Abstract: Methods and systems for facilitating remote access and customization of internally generated printing node status reports. In some embodiments, the methods and systems advantageously facilitate remote access and customization of internally generated printing node status reports by adapting preexisting features that generate local hard copies of printing node status reports in response to locally initiated commands. Such adaptation enables a printing node to receive, process and respond to remotely initiated requests for printing node status reports in a manner that permits remote customization of the style of printing node status reports.

Abstract: In an image forming method, an electrostatic latent image formed on a surface of a photoreceptor is developed into a developer image with a developer, and a printing paper transported on a transfer belt is brought into contact with the surface of the photoreceptor so as to transfer the developer image onto the printing paper. The printing paper is transported in a proper transport direction, in which a projection generated in one direction on the printing paper as a result of cutting the printing paper in a printing paper manufacturing process does not face a surface of the transfer belt at a leading edge of the printing paper being transported on the transfer belt. In this way, even in the presence of the projection generated when the printing paper is cut, the printing paper naturally strips off from the surface of the photoreceptor, thereby preventing toner contamination caused by a striping claw in contact with the leading edge of the printing paper.

The first marking engine includes first and second metrics. The method includes determining a present state value of the first and second metrics for the first marking engine, and estimating an incremental depletion value of the first and second metrics of the first and second print jobs. The method further includes comparing the incremental depletion value of the first and second metrics, respectively, with the present state value of the first and second metrics for the first marking engine. The method also includes ordering the first and second print jobs in the storage device based at least partially on the comparison. A system is also discussed.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for asynchronous reporting of printer maintenance data in a printer. The method can include the operation of setting a hardware trap for a printer power-on event in the printer. The hardware trap is configured to report to a harvesting server in response to generation of the hardware trap. A further operation is generating the printer power-on event using the hardware trap when the printer is powered-on. Another operation is collecting printer maintenance data in response to the printer power-on event. In addition, the printer maintenance data that has been collected is sent to the harvesting server in order to update the printer maintenance data stored by the harvesting server.

  • Patent number: 7636526
Abstract: An image forming apparatus of the invention conveys paper fed by a paper feeding mechanism piece by piece to a paper discharging unit through a paper conveying path. An image forming unit is arranged in a midway portion of this paper conveying path and executes an image forming process for printing an image based on image data on paper being conveyed. A sensor that detects a type of the paper conveyed is arranged on an upstream side with respect to the image forming unit on the paper conveying path. Image forming process conditions for the image forming unit are set in accordance with a detection result of the sensor. When the paper fed is paper not detected by the sensor, the image forming process is not started. After paper type detection by the sensor, the paper is directly discharged. When the paper fed is paper of the same type as paper detected by the sensor, the image forming process is started without performing paper type detection.
