  • Patent number: 8620167
Abstract: An image forming device includes a light-receiving element that receives a light having passed through a cartridge. An image forming unit has a first mode for forming images while rotating an agitator at a first speed and a second mode for forming images while rotating the agitator at a second speed that is lower than the first speed. If a value regarding image forming amount counted while the image forming unit is in the second mode is determined to be greater than a predetermined value, the image forming unit changes a rotation speed of the agitator from the second speed to the first speed, and it is determined whether the cartridge should be replaced based on a time ratio, which is a ratio of time duration, in which the light-receiving element receives the detection light within a predetermined duration, to the predetermined time duration.

  • Patent number: 6324366
Abstract: A drive roller is rotated and a high voltage periodically alternating between plus and minus based on the potential of a conductive portion of the drive roller 2 is applied by a high voltage power source 4 to an electric charger, so that the surface of the drive roller 2 is charged plus and minus alternately. Since the drive roller 2 is charged, a sleeve 1 is absorbed to and held by the drive roller 2 so as to be rotated and fed together with the drive roller. Moreover, the sleeve 1 is separated from the drive roller 2 by a separator so as to obtain a sag. When the drive roller rotates further, the sleeve 1 is again absorbed to and held by the drive roller 2 charged periodically plus and minus, so as to be rotated together with the drive roller. Thus, the present invention eliminates scratches which may be caused by friction on a developing roller or on a photosensitive body surface and also eliminates contamination with oil.

  • Patent number: 6205313
Abstract: Toner charging and/or delivery systems and methods charge and deliver charged toner particles to an image development zone without using carrier particles. Toner particles for imaging process are charged by filling the grooves or cups of a gravure member with uncharged toner particles and charging the toner particles in the grooves or cups using a corona discharge device. The charged toner particles are then transported directly or indirectly to an imaged photoreceptor, where the charged toner particles are used to develop a latent electrostatic image on the imaged photoreceptor. The developed image is then transferred to a copy sheet and permanently fused to the copy sheet.
