  • Patent number: 8145103
Abstract: There is provided an image formation device including a developer holding body having a developer holding surface; and a developer supply unit to supply the developer to a position facing the developer holding surface by carrying the developer in a developer transport direction intersecting with the main scanning direction through use of effect of an electric field. The developer supply unit includes a plurality of carrying electrodes each of which is formed to have a longer side extending along the main scanning direction. The carrying electrodes are arranged along the developer transport direction to carry the developer when a drive voltage is applied to the carrying electrodes. The developer supply unit has a developer carrying area formed such that, in the main scanning direction, the developer carrying area becomes narrower from an upstream side in the developer transport direction toward the position along the developer transport direction.

  • Patent number: 7599649
Abstract: A development device configured to develop an electrostatic latent image on an image carrying member with a two-component developer having a toner and a carrier, the development device including: a developer carrying member to carry the two-component developer to a development region in which the developer carrying member faces the image carrying member; a developer control member to control a volume of the two-component developer; a plurality of electrodes to be separately disposed in a direction parallel to a rotation axis of the developer carrying member while separated from a surface of the developer carrying member and located between the developer control member and the development region in a rotation direction of the developer carrying member; and a power source to apply a power to the plurality of electrodes to form a periodically changing electric field generating an external force to convey the two-component developer in the rotation axis direction.

  • Patent number: 7330683
Abstract: A developing device includes a developer bearing body disposed in opposition to a latent image bearing body for bearing a latent image thereon. The developer bearing body develops the latent image using a developer. The developer has a degree of circularity greater than or equals to 0.93. The developing device further includes a developer layer forming member that contacts the developer on the developer bearing body to thereby form a developer layer. The developer bearing body rotates at a circumferential speed within a range from 185 mm/sec to 250 mm/sec. The initial fluidity of the developer is greater than or equals to 80%, and the tapping density of the developer is less than or equals to 35%.

  • Patent number: 7149460
Abstract: Electron charging of particles, as may be associated with electrographic and/or xerographic image forming devices, powder coat finishing devices and/or guns, or the like, is performed by subjecting a stream of particles to electron bombardment from at least one electrode overcoated with nanotubes, such as carbon nanotubes. An alternating electric field may be employed to reduce the possibility of charged particles being deposited on opposing electrodes in an electron charging zone defined by the electrodes. Particles of varying sizes, and of irregular shapes, may be uniformly charged while required input voltages to the system are reduced based on efficiencies gained through nanotube technology.

  • Patent number: 6181902
Abstract: A method for operating electrographic printers or copiers uses toner particles of two different colors applied to a toner image carrier by at least two developing units. A force field is applied to at least one section of the travel path of the toner particles from a toner container to the toner image carrier to cause the toner particles to be carried in the direction of the toner image carrier. Changing the force field causes an interruption of the transfer of the toner particles with the developer stations are in a rest position.

  • Patent number: 5742885
Abstract: An apparatus for developing a latent image recorded on a surface including a housing defining a chamber storing a supply of toner. A toner donor member is spaced from the image bearing surface and adapted to transport toner to a region opposed from the surface. A charging device is disposed in the chamber for ion charging the toner. A vibrational driver fluidizes the toner in the chamber. The vibrational driver and a transport member cooperate with one another to define a region wherein a substantially constant quantity of toner having a substantially constant ion charge is deposited on the transport member. The toner is electrostatically transferred from the transport member to the donor member which contains an AC biased self spaced electrode structure so as to form a toner cloud for developing the latent image in an image on image process.

  • Patent number: 5656409
Abstract: Non-magnetic and non-conductive powdered toner is applied to a rotating image cylinder having an electrostatic pattern. A container having a closed bottom and sides and open top contains the powdered toner. The powder is fluidized by introducing air through a pervious closed bottom of the container, and by vibrating the container. The toner is simultaneously stirred and electrically charged to a potential of greater than about 7 kv (plus or minus polarity) by rotating elements with radial pointed appendages in the container. Toner is transferred from the container to an image cylinder at an exposed nine o'clock position of the image cylinder by a plurality of transfer cylinders. A first transfer cylinder is mounted so that its periphery is just above the open top of the container and an applicator cylinder has its axis below the axis of the first cylinder, and its periphery adjacent both the first cylinder and the image cylinder.
