  • Patent number: 9063479
Abstract: A system and method are provided to implement a double belt roll fuser geometry to enable consistent self-stripping of image receiving media exiting a fuser assembly in an image forming device. Interaction between an image receiving medium substrate and a fuser belt of a belt roll fuser device is modified to include configuration in which an opposing belt is positioned around a pressure roller to oppose the fuser belt provided around the fuser roller. The fuser belt and the opposing belt extend in a downstream direction from the fusing nip and are configured to provide an appropriate length downstream of the fusing nip that sandwiches the image receiving medium substrate between the fuser belt and the opposing belt. Each of the fuser belt and the opposing belt wrap 70 degrees or more around significantly smaller diameter rollers positioned downstream of the fusing nip to form a stripping nip.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for minimizing dot visibility in color marking devices capable of dot-on-dot printing. The present method achieves minimum dot visibility for a given dispersed-dot screen by performing a CMYK to CMYKRGB conversion which uses less visible dots as much as possible before more visible dots are introduced. The output color dot coverages are calculated sequentially to minimize the coverage of more visible dots in a decreasing order of brightness. Resulting images have noticeably reduced halftone graininess, particularly in the mid to darker tone areas. The present method is also computationally efficient.

Abstract: Hot offset of black toner is reduced or eliminated in a color electrophotographic imaging device, such as a laser printer, by applying a minimal layer of non-black toner in addition to the black toner on a print media. The non-black toner, such as cyan, magenta or yellow toner, acts as a release agent for reducing or eliminating hot offset of the black toner during fusing of the toner to the media. The non-black toner is applied as a thin layer just sufficient to reduce hot offset of the black toner and such that an appearance of a resultant image formed retains a visual perception of being a black toner only image. In an alternate embodiment, the thin layer of non-black toner is applied in response to coated media being processed, such as overhead transparencies, that are more susceptible to hot offset.
