Abstract: In the related art of a method called a gloss mark, clear toner capable of adjusting glossiness without varying color phase has been used in order to prepare a gloss mark. However, a development device for clear toner is necessary in addition to a development device for colored toner. Accordingly, there has been a problem of upsizing and cost increase of an image forming apparatus. The image forming apparatus of the present invention forms a gloss mark only with colored toner without using clear toner. Specifically, at an area of which gloss is to be lowered, a part of colored toner required for forming an image is formed and fixed on a sheet, and then, the residual quantity which is not formed before the fixing out of the colored toner required for forming the image is formed and fixed so as to be superimposed to the fixed colored toner.

By also applying the transparent toner as a negative mask, the differential gloss of the image may be reduced while still adjusting the gloss of certain portions of the image. Further, because different gloss levels may appear different at different viewing angles, transparent toner may be laid down to encode a transparent image within the image being printed. Such a transparent image may be useful as, for example, an authentication means for a document. Additionally, by varying the gloss levels on particular aspects of a printed image, multiple images of different gloss levels, which are prominent at different viewing angles can be made, thereby, a three-dimensional image effect can be achieved on the printed page.

Abstract: Electrophotographic printing of one or more layers of toner using a method of enhancing fuser offset latitude to enable the printing of a wide range of toner mass laydown using electrophotography. This method encompasses the steps of forming multicolor toner images, determining the amount of clear overcoat mass laydown as a function of the color mass laydown or non-raised mass laydown and fusing the clear toner overcoat and the multicolor toner image at a fusing temperature determined by the maximum total mass laydown and the nip width to provide good adhesion to the receiver member while optimizing fuser offset latitude.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus, includes a first image bearing member; a first transfer member that comes into contact with either an intermediate transfer member or a recording material bearing member; a colored toner image forming portion; a second image bearing member; a second transfer member; and a transparent toner image forming toner. The transparent toner image forming portion is positioned on an upstream side with respect to the colored toner image forming portion in a movement direction of the intermediate transfer member or the recording material bearing member. As a result, a distance between a most upstream end of an area of contact between the intermediate transfer member or the recording material bearing member and the second transfer member in a rotation direction is larger than a distance between a most upstream end of an area of contact between the intermediate transfer member or the recording material bearing member and the first transfer member in a rotation direction.
