  • Patent number: 5689790
Abstract: The present invention provides an image forming apparatus comprising an image bearing member, and a recording material bearing member for bearing a recording material to convey the recording material to a transfer station where an image is transferred from the image bearing member onto the recording material borne on the recording material bearing member. The recording material bearing member is capable of bearing a plurality of recording materials simultaneously at different positions thereon. The images can be successively transferred onto first and second surfaces of each recording material, and, when images are formed on the second surfaces of the plurality of recording materials, during a time period in which an area of the recording material bearing member with which the first surface of the recording material was previously contacted is passing through at least the transfer position without bearing the recording material, a spacer particle layer is formed between the image bearing member and the area.

  • Patent number: 5666208
Abstract: A method of registering images on a user interface with a screen display in which separate electronic pages corresponding respectively with the first and second sides of an electronic duplex page are displayed on the user interface screen display simultaneously with a first image on the first side being disposed in a first position and a second image on the second side being disposed in a second position. The second image is moved on the screen display, relative to the first image so that the second image is disposed in the first position and is aligned with respect to the first image in a selected aligned relationship. Each of the separate electronic pages has a transparent background so that substantial portions of the second image are visible on the screen display even when the first image is superposed with respect to the second image.

  • Patent number: 5659846
Abstract: The image forming apparatus of the present invention performs image forming operations for each predetermined number of sheets, giving an operator required directives of replacing document originals at required timing when, in a two-side image forming mode, a set number of copy sheets is judged to be over the storing capacity of an intermediate tray. Given such proper directives, the operator can conduct the image forming operation on a large volume of copy sheets without making mistakes in a complicated procedure of setting document originals.

  • Patent number: 5652949
Abstract: Preheating temperature of a preheating plate provided on the front side of a fixing unit can be changed using a temperature controller. In a case where a printing system to print images on both sides of a print member is constructed by arranging two electrophotographic printing apparatuses in dependent relationship, the preheating temperature of the preheating plate in the electrophotographic printing apparatus in the second stage is changed to a low temperature to prevent the toner image fixed in the electrophotographic printing apparatus in the first stage from softening.

  • Patent number: 5642205
Abstract: A method and system for printing a transmitted document having a cover page. The system determines if a present state of operation is a duplex mode and if a cover page has been transmitted. The system then prints, when the present state of operation is determined to be duplex and a cover page has been transmitted, the cover page as a simplex document and the remaining portion as a duplex document. On the other hand, the system prints the cover page and remaining portion of the transmitted document as a simplex document when it is determined that the present state of operation is a simplex mode.

  • Patent number: 5629762
Abstract: Image-forming apparatus includes a finite length image member such as a seamed photoconductive loop. Images are formed on the image member in one of three different sized image frames, the first image frame being 1/2 the in-track length of the third image frame and the second image frame having an intermediate length. Relatively small size images, for example letter size images are formed in the first size frames while relatively large sized images, for example, ledger sized images are formed in the third size frames. Intermediate sized images, for example images for B-4 receiving sheets are formed in the second or intermediate size image frames. Receiving sheets in duplex are passed through a finite length duplex path which has a speed profile which is substantially the same for receiving sheets bearing images formed in the first and third frame lengths but is different, for example faster, for images formed in the second size image frame while use of the same duplex path for the three frame sizes.

  • Patent number: 5623719
Abstract: Electrostatographic image reproduction apparatus forms images of toner particles on a receptor material moving along a transport path. A rotatable contact roller contacts the receptor material while it has an electrostatically charged toner particle image on at least the adjacent surface thereof. The contact roller is selected from a receptor material transport roller, a guiding roller, and a reversing roller. Electrostatic charging device provide an electrostatic charge, having the same polarity as the charge polarity of the toner particles, on the surface of the contact roller before contact of the receptor material with the surface of the contact roller. Cleaning means remove any toner particles from the surface of the roller after release of the receptor material from the surface of the contact roller. Smudging of the toner image on the receptor material is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5606429
Abstract: A copier apparatus and method includes a scanning station for electronically scanning a set of document sheets to be copied as a copy job. The scanning station includes a platen for supporting a document sheet to be scanned in a first mode wherein the document sheet is manually positioned on the platen by an operator. This document sheet serves as a master and the image thereon is used for copying onto copies made of other document sheets in the set. The scanning station further provides for scanning of the document sheets in a second mode wherein document sheets are automatically fed. A controller automatically actuates the scanning station for scanning a document sheet in the first mode and also actuates a feeder for automatically feeding document sheets to the scanning station for scanning document sheets in the second mode.

  • Patent number: 5604577
Abstract: A double-side image forming apparatus forms an image on one side of a sheet in a laser printer section, reverses the leading edge and the trailing edge of the sheet with respect to the transporting direction in a turnaround section, turns over the sheet by moving the sheet through an upper or lower reversing transport path, and transports the sheet to the laser printer section again. A sheet guiding device guides the sheet output from the turnaround section to one of the upper and lower reversing transport paths. When the sheet is again transported to the laser printer section, an image is formed on the other side of the sheets. This configuration simplifies the structure of the apparatus and reduces the size thereof compared to a configuration in which only one reversing transport path capable of holding the same number of sheets therein is formed.

  • Patent number: 5602651
Abstract: The present invention provides an image recording apparatus including a document size detection sensor 103 for recognizing a size of an image to be recorded. An image input section 101 reads and stores therein the image to be recorded, and a paper feeder stores therein and feeding recording paper having a specified size. An image forming section 108 forms an image on recording paper fed from the paper feeder. An image processing section 106 divides a read image into two portions based on a result of detection by the document size detection sensor 103 when a size of the image to be recorded is larger than recording paper having a specified size and executes image processing for displacing a central position of each image so that an edge section of each image will be aligned to an edge of a binding space of each discrete sheet of recording paper. One of the image portions may further be inverted. An image output section 107 outputs an image processed by the image processing section 108.
