  • Patent number: 10992833
Abstract: A control unit of an image reading apparatus determines, based on results of detection of an original document by a plurality of second detecting units, whether the original document will pass a position at which the original document is to be detected by a first detecting unit that is located downstream of the second detecting units and upstream of a reading unit. When it is determined that the original document will not pass a position at which the original document is to be detected by the first detecting unit, the control unit determines a timing for reading the original document by using the reading unit, relative to a time point at which the original document is detected by the second detecting units. The control unit causes the reading unit to read the original document at the determined reading timing.

  • Patent number: 8953216
Abstract: An original reader capable of being downsized without requiring a large-capacity image memory. A conveying path conveys an original. Sensors are arranged on the conveying path, for detecting the conveyed original. CCD line sensors read the conveyed original. A CPU of the image reader decides the size of the conveyed original based on the results of detection by the sensors. An image memory stores image data output from the line sensors. The CPU transmits the decided original size and the stored image data to a controller. When the CPU cannot decide the original size at a predetermined timing, it transmits one of original size candidates to the controller, as a provisional original size. When the size of the original decided afterwards is different from the provisional original size, the CPU retransmits the decided size of the original.

  • Patent number: 7706013
Abstract: In an image forming system which has a client unit, a management unit, and a printer unit, when the client unit issues a replacement print request to the management unit, the management unit notifies the client unit of the contents of the print queue in response to the replacement print request. The client unit displays the notified contents of the print queue, and prompts the user to designate a print job to be replaced and an inserting position of a new print job into the print queue. After that, the client unit outputs, to the management unit, replacement information which includes information indicating the designated print job to be replaced, information indicating the designated inserting position, and the new print job. The management unit updates the print queue in accordance with this replacement information.

Abstract: A driving apparatus includes a driving unit, a driven unit driven by the driving unit, a driving control unit configured to control the driving unit by performing feed-forward control based on feed-forward target data determined in advance to reduce a speed change of the driven unit. The speed change of the driven unit is expressed substantially as a positive half cycle of a sinusoidal waveform having an amplitude and a time duration, and the feed-forward target data is calculated from the amplitude and the time duration to represent a rectangular waveform approximating the positive half cycle of the sinusoidal waveform.

  • Patent number: 7551885
Abstract: The present invention provides an image processing apparatus which not only judges the occurrence of multiple feeding with a high accuracy, but also can identify later the location of occurrence of the multiple feeding even if the document reading operation is continued after detecting the occurrence of a multiple feeding. The detection device (the detecting and reading section 53) detects the information storage media attached to the documents which are being fed one sheet at a time by the automatic document feeder 20 and from which the images are being read out. The determining section 56 detects based on the result of this detection the occurrence of multiple feeding in which a plural number of sheets of the document are conveyed in an overlapping state. The information recording section 54 writes the multiple feeding information, indicating that a multiple feeding has occurred, in the information recording medium of the document that was judged to have been fed in an overlapping state.

Abstract: There is provided an image forming apparatus capable of realizing a trial printing function that minimizes unnecessary consumption of time and supplies. Images that are inputted are accumulated in a memory. An output mode is set and a setting is made as to whether trial printing is to be carried out in the output mode or not. A CPU provides control to read out a corresponding image from the memory according to the set output mode and form the readout image on a sheet. When it is determined that the trial printing is to be carried out during image formation according to the set output mode, the CPU provides control to set the number of trial print pages according to predetermined conditions and carry out the trial printing for the set number of trial print pages.

  • Patent number: 7409184
Abstract: When an original document is placed on the lift tray, a timer is reset and starts counting a predetermined time (S12). Whether an alignment device is moved to adjust the original documents loaded on the lift tray in, for example, the widthwise direction transverse to the transportation direction is then determined (S13). If a change in the detected width of the original documents is detected (S13 returns Yes), control returns to S12 and the timer is reset and started again (S12). If there is no change in the detected width of the original documents in S13, control waits for the timer set in S12 to time out (S14). If the timer reaches the predetermined time set in S12 (S15 returns Yes), the lift tray is driven up by the lift motor (S16) and rises until the top limit sensor turns on (S17).
