Abstract: A combined strainer and stopper device for basins and sinks has a perforated cylindrical housing with an open lower end and a top wall at its upper end. A valve disc is carried by a lower end of an actuator stem reciprocable in the housing for movement into and out of sealing engagement with a seat in a drain opening independently of movement of the perforated housing. In a preferred form of the invention, the top wall is integral with the side wall and is perforate, and a spring is engaged between the top wall and the stem to urge the valve disc in a direction to seat it. The stem extends through the top wall and through a spaced handle on the upper end of the housing, and the spaced relationship of the handle and top wall guides the stem. Outwardly projecting retaining lugs on the stem cooperate with the handle to retain the valve disc in an open position, and an annular shoulder formed on the housing limits the extent of insertion of the housing into a drain opening.

Abstract: A safety cover for swimming pool drains for dispersing suction pressure and preventing a person's hair or other body parts from becoming entangled and otherwise preventing injury or death. A generally dome-shaped drain cover is removably affixed to a new and/or existing suction drain using a universal mounting mechanism. The drain cover is preferably circular and includes a peripheral lip, a sidewall, and a segmented dome-shaped top portion. The peripheral lip functions to form a seal with the bottom surface of the pool surrounding the drain, while the sidewall defines a plurality of openings therein and the segmented dome-shaped top portion defines a plurality of segments each of which include a plurality of openings. Each opening incorporates screen mesh material for allowing water to flow therethrough.

  • Patent number: 6418568
Abstract: A stopper-strainer device (1) having a diaphragm (2) and a closure plate (4). The diaphragm (2) is provided with apertures (6) for passage of fluid. The diaphragm (2) is movable between 2 first and second conditions in which the stopper-strainer device (1) functions as a stopper and a strainer, respectively. In the first condition, the closure plate (4) seals with the diaphragm (2) so that the stopper-strainer device (1) functions as a stopper to prevent fluid flow. In the second condition, the closure plate (4) is spaced from the diaphragm (2) and fluid is able to pass through the apertures (6) so that the stopper-strainer device (1) functions as a strainer to allow fluid flow while restraining material entrained in the fluid that is unable to pass through the apertures (6).

  • Patent number: 6418569
Abstract: A waste outlet has a clamping ring which seats a flared filler tube. The tube directs water into a well in which the water rises and overflows into the bowl of the outlet. The filler tube contains a solids filter disc which is connected to the filler tube. When the cover is removed, the tube and the disc are removable as a pair. The disc cleans the well as it is retracted. The disc drops clear of the tube allowing the disc to be cleaned before re-insertion. A version for spa baths has a screw operated disc for making the outlet function as a plug. A rectangular grooved drainage plate for draining tiles directly through slots in the ring is provided with the waste outlet as a version for shower slabs.
