Abstract: A foreign matter trap for use in a drain such as a shower or sink drain in which water flows downwardly through a drain pipe, the trap having an element for removably positioning in the drain pipe including a downwardly extending longitudinal member, a plurality of layers of foreign matter catching members extending generally radially from the longitudinal member, each layer being formed of a plurality of spaced apart spicule members, the spicule members of each layer covering less than a complete cross-sectional circumferential area leaving a portion free for the flow of water therepast, the layers being arranged so that the spicule members in adjacent upper layers extend over and above the free cross-sectional areas of the next lower layer so that water may continue to flow through the drain even when the spicule members of any layer are completely closed by trapped foreign matter.

  • Patent number: 4999858
Abstract: A drain pipe assembly, which includes a S-shaped drain pipe having mounted on its orifice a cup-like filter plate and a strainer and having inserted therein a cleaning brush. The S-shaped drain pipe includes a bent pipe portion extending from a vertical end pipe portion to define therewith a first bent on its upper side and a second bent on its bottom side, wherein the second bent is arranged at a level much higher than the first bent so that impurities and mud carried by rain water can be retained in the bottom of the vertical end pipe portion and vermin can be prohibited from passing therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4910811
Abstract: An all plastic floor drain including a rigid plastic connector body and a rigid plastic strainer plate that is received in an annular recess in the connector body. The strainer plate includes a plurality of positioning pins that extend from the lower surface thereof and the annular recess in the connector body includes a corresponding number of positioning apertures to receive the positioning pins. Preferaby, there is free movement between the positioning pins and the positioning apertures when the pins are first inserted in the apertures, but one of the other of the pins or the apertures is tapered so that there is an interference fit as the strainer plate approaches its final position relative to the connector body, to securely connect the strainer plate and the connector body and to provide a substantially flat upper surface level with the surface of the floor. The use of all plastic parts and the absence of metallic connectors avoids corrosion.
