Patent number: 4817219Abstract: A sitting bathtub has one lateral wall almost completely open. A hatch is placed over the opening so that one of the hatch's lower corners by the weight of the hatch rests against the side wall of the tub. A movable handle is arranged to press the rest of the lower part of the hatch against the side wall to obtain an initial seal. When water is filled into the tub, the hydrostatic pressure against the hatch climbs upwards forcing the sealing function successively to climb in advance upwards over the rising water level. The handle can be operated from inside as well as from outside of the tub. The force with which the handle presses against the inside of the hatch is proportional to the turning angle of the handle.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1986Date of Patent: April 4, 1989Inventor: Sture Schenstrom

Patent number: 4680817Abstract: A personal hygiene center comprises in combination a tub, hand-held shower head mounted on the tub and toilet. The tub has upright front and rear walls and opposing end walls. A ceiling interconnects the walls and is of a height to accommodate a normal person standing on a floor of the tub. The tub has a walk-in entrance opening in the front wall. The door closes off a lower portion of the front wall to contain water in the tub and leave open an upper portion of the front wall to permit access into the tub by an attendant. A bench-style seat is integral with a first of the end walls. A cavity is defined beneath the bench seat where the opening exposes a major portion of an edge of the bench-style seat adjacent the front wall. A second opening is provided in the front wall to permit sliding movement of the toilet into and out of the cavity. Track means mounts the toilet beneath the bench seat for such sliding movement into and out of storage position.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1986Date of Patent: July 21, 1987Inventors: George C. Sloan, David J. Laine

Patent number: 4672693Abstract: Sitting bathtub constituted by a tub (10) provided with an opening (11) extending almost down to the bottom of the tub and a hatch (15) to close this opening. When closing the bathtub before having a bath the hatch (15) is placed on the inside of the bathtub and the hydrostatic forces of the water forces the hatch against the edges of the opening where a seal is provided on the hatch. The sides and in particular the side with the opening are inclined or sloped outwards from the bottom so that the hatch with its seal will rest by its own weight against the seal. In particular seal (16), hatch (15) and the side of the bathtub are so arranged that a good sealing effect is always certain at the bottom of the bathtub when the rising water and the resulting hydrostatic pressure enable the sealing effect to climb upwards even on a light and slightly flexible hatch. This in turn enables the hatch to be very light and easy to handle and it is thus no inconvenience to have a loose hatch.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1985Date of Patent: June 16, 1987Inventor: Inga-Lena Schenstrom

Patent number: 4213210Abstract: An air channel device is disclosed for spas or bath units which is mat-like and has a plurality of openings therein to permit the entry of air into a heated bath. The air channel mat is mounted to the interior of the spa bath unit at any desired location including the foot and seat areas. It is secured to the interior surface of the spa by interlocking retainers which seal the periphery of the air channel to the interior of the spa. Air is blown into the spa beneath the air channel mat and then escapes into the bath through the perforations in the mat. The air channel device of the present invention eliminates prior U-shaped exterior air channels which were susceptible to cracking and breakage. The present air channel provides a cushioning effect in the foot and seat areas and also permits uniform aeration for the heated bath.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1979Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Assignee: Aqua Star Pool CompanyInventor: Chris N.
