Patent number: 11766712Abstract: A method of manufacturing a panel using an initial die and a series of secondary dies includes sequentially defining multi-dimensional models for the series of secondary dies. The method includes simulating a geometry of an nth pre-panel, defining a multi-dimensional model of the nth secondary die based on the simulated geometry of the nth pre-panel, simulating operation of the nth secondary die on the nth pre-panel to determine geometry of an (n+1)th pre-panel, and determining a deviation between the simulated (n+1)th pre-panel and a target pre-panel geometry. If the deviation is outside tolerance, the method includes iteratively: adjusting the multi-dimensional model of the nth secondary die, simulating operation thereof to determine an adjusted simulated geometry of the (n+1)th pre-panel, and determining a deviation between the adjusted simulated geometry of the (n+1)th pre-panel and the target (n+1)th pre-panel, until the deviation is within the tolerance limit.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 2020Date of Patent: September 26, 2023Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Evangelos Liasi, Liang Huang, Yinong Shen, Joon Kang, Rob Vaughn Degenhardt

Patent number: 10762705Abstract: One embodiment of the invention is a pop-up engine that generates a pop-up card from a sliced 3D graphics model. In operation, the pop-up engine processes a sliced 3D model to identify locations where the sliced 3D model is to attach to a plane surface of a pop-up card. For a given set of slices associated with a sliced 3D model, the pop-up engine identifies at least two slices that intersect at a folding line of the plane surface. The pop-up engine then identifies locations on the slices that are the farthest from the folding line. The pop-up engine marks the identified locations as connection points, where the 3D model is to attach to the plane surface.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2013Date of Patent: September 1, 2020Assignee: AUTODESK, INC.Inventors: Johnathan Bachrach, Saul Griffith

Publication number: 20020073583Abstract: A display device is provided which is formed by first and second outer panels and a third, inner panel disposed between the outer panels. The outer panels are joined together separately from the inner panel in a first portion of the device and each of the outer panels includes a slit in this first portion and fold lines therein for enabling the joined outer panels to be pulled apart and separated along the slit to expose the inner panel for display. All of the panels are joined together at a further, base portion of the device. The fold lines in outer panels provide folding of parts of the outer panels forming the base portion of the device into a support arrangement for the device. In a first state of the device, the inner panel is shielded from view by the outer panels and the inner and outer panels form a unit of a substantially flat, planar configuration, and, in a second state of the device, the inner panel is exposed for display and is supported by the support arrangement.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2000Publication date: June 20, 2002Inventors: Ronald P.
