Ear Or Wing Tags Patents (Class 40/301)
  • Patent number: 4344240
Abstract: An identification snap for attachment to woven material such as clothing includes a first plate member bearing identifying indicia on an outer surface and a post projecting from an inner surface, and a second plate member including a centrally disposed orifice extending from an inner face to an outer face, the orifice being defined by a substantially frusto-conical wall which converges toward the inner face. The orifice is sized to receive the post of the first plate member in an interference fit so that when the first plate member is placed against the fabric of a garment with the post extending through it and the second plate member is placed on the opposite side of the fabric, the post can be received within the orifice, thereby joining the first and second plate members and clamping the fabric therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4265876
Abstract: The invention relates to animal ear tags.Ear tags for attachment to ears of animals such as cattle in accordance with the invention are made at least in part from a material comprising a solid organic polymeric macromolecular substance having a molecular weight above 1000 and a pesticidally-active compound having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently selected from fluorine, chlorine and bromine; X is hydrogen, cyano or ethynyl; and Z is hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine or bromine. The invention also provides a method for making the tags by mixing the macromolecular substance and the compound of formula I and forming the tag by injection moulding, and further provides a method of controlling fly and tick populations in the vicinity of an animal by affixing to an ear of the animal a tag in accordance with the invention. The ear tags are surprisingly effective in the control of insects and ticks on animals, such as cattle.

  • Patent number: 4184453
Abstract: A locking device, in combination with a self-locking tag, insertable through a slit in the ear of an animal, includes a disc with a centrally disposed slit for more securely attaching the tag to the animal. Similar to the function of a pedestal, the device may also support the tag in an essentially upright position in the animal's ear. In addition, two locking devices may be utilized on both sides of the ear to prevent the tripping of the tag from either side of the ear. Another salient feature of the locking device is that it may be of a color which provides information concerning the animal. Additionally, the device may be impregnated with an insecticide repellent which will bleed out over a period of time thereby providing a measure of control over flies, lice, and other insects that may come near the animal's ear.

  • Patent number: 4010563
Abstract: The invention provides an improved animal identification tag for attachment to the ear of an animal, which stands up when attached to the ear to provide for improved readability. The tag is of one-piece construction, and is easily inserted. The tag has a flat information-carrying portion having a surface on which indicia may be placed, and a pin extending outwardly from the edge of the information-carrying portion in a direction generally parallel to the surface. The end of the pin has laterally extending, resilient, flexible prongs forming a spear-shaped portion which passes through the ear of the animal and retains the tag in the ear. To retain the tag in an upright position, the tag is provided with a pair of flexible, resilient support members extending outwardly from the information-carrying portion adjacent to the shaft. These support members are positioned to contact the surface of the ear of an animal when the prongs and end of the shaft are passed through the ear.

  • Patent number: 3987570
Abstract: The invention comprises the combination of an animal ear tag and an applicator for inserting the tag into the ear. The tag has a neck portion at one side that terminates in a lateral extension of a T-shape. The applicator includes a flat, elongated knife blade, extendible from and retractible within a cylindrical housing therefor. Located rearwardly of an arrow shape cutting edge on the blade are finger means for releasably holding the lateral extension against a side of the knife blade with the cross arm of the extension located forwardly. On insertion of the blade through the ear, the cross arm of the lateral extension is concurrently moved through the resultant cut so that on withdrawal of the knife the cross arm of the lateral extension is along the side of the ear remote from the tag. A locking disc is then releasably secured to such cross arm to lock the tag against accidental removal from the ear.

  • Patent number: 3979847
Abstract: An improved method and tool for installing an identification tag into the ear of an animal. The tool comprises a handle portion and an elongated insertion portion having an end portion with a flat top surface and opposed blunt edges converging to form a sharp piercing tip. The tool also has engagement means for engaging a portion of an animal identification tag which is to be forced through the ear. In carrying out the method, the pointed tip and blunt edges are forced through the ear of an animal to pierce and stretch the tissue, and to create an opening. • Patent number: 3965602
Abstract: The invention provides an improved animal identification tag for attachment to the ear of an animal, which stands up when attached to the ear to provide for improved readability, while reducing irritation. The tag has an information-carrying portion having a surface on which indicia may be placed, and a pin extending from the information-carrying portion. The end of the pin has laterally extending, flexible prongs forming a spear-shaped portion which passes through the ear of the animal and retains the tag in the ear. In order to reduce irritation which may be produced by the flexible prongs, at least two opposite prongs have tip portions which are curved downwardly away from the information-carrying portion so as to conform to the inner surface of the ear.

  • Patent number: 3959908
Abstract: An ear-type livestock identification tag comprises a planar member having a body and a neck, the neck extending outwardly from the body and adapted for insertion through an animal ear, and a tab member adapted for locking onto the terminal end of the neck. The curvature and length of the neck is such that the body of a tag having the neck mounted, close to the head, in an animal ear lies below the ear and roughly parallel to the animal's cheek. Identifying indicia on the tag body is easily read since the body lies parallel to the cheek, and there is little accidental tag loss since the neck is anchored in a thick part of the ear.

  • Patent number: 3955580
Abstract: The identification tag is in the form of a flexible plastic disc having a fastening portion in the shape of an inverted T, the stem of the T extending from a peripheral portion of the disc. A U-shaped strip of metal serves as an inserting tool and is arranged to straddle the disc, a first arm terminating in a square end and the second arm being longer than the first arm and terminating in a point. The arrangement is such that the inverted T-shape can be flexed towards an upright position so that the square end of the first arm can be received between the stem and cross portion of the T with the second arm holding the underside of the second cross portion of the T and stem in their flexed positions. A cow's ear is then pierced by the point on the second arm, the first arm urging the T-shape through the cut opening. Withdrawal of the U-shaped arms then permits the T-shape to flex back to its normal position to secure the tag to the cow's ear.
