  • Patent number: 8091261
Abstract: Apparatus for forming a band into a persistent loop. The band incorporating the apparatus has a hole portion which contains a hole, a tongue portion which fits through the hole, and an adhesive attachment area on one or both of the hole and tongue portions. The band is made into a persistent loop by drawing the tongue portion through the hole and attaching the adhesive attachment area to the loop's outside surface. The size of the loop may be adjusted by varying the amount of the tongue portion which is drawn through the hole. A loop may be temporarily preformed by engaging a structure on the tongue portion with the hole. In embodiments in which the band is made of stiff material, the engaging structures may be the edges of the tongue portion and the edges of the hole. The disclosed embodiment of the apparatus is an identification band.

  • Patent number: 6644694
Abstract: A foldable, weather-resistant reference guide for wearing on the arm, torso, or leg. The foldable, weather-resistant reference guide is attached to a soft, flexible keeping member that holds the reference guide in a folded configuration. The keeping member is connected to or comprised of at least one flexible strap such as an elastic strap that encircles the arm, torso, or leg. The reference guide itself is made of a synthetic fiber paper for weather-resistance. The reference guide folds-up when not in use and is held in place by the keeping member so that the reference guide does not interfere with any physical activities such as snow skiing. The keeping member and reference guide can be opened, unfolded, refolded, and closed with only one hand, even while wearing bulky gloves. The entire invention is made of flexible materials that are comfortable, durable, and safe to a person wearing the article and participating in a rigorous physical activity. The reference guide is typically a map.

  • Publication number: 20030015149
Abstract: A tag assembly secures to an animal's body and includes a tag body. The tag body may be made of a flexible base panel and a flexible transparent cover panel joined at their perimeters and elongated to be configurable into a closed loop. Alternatively, one or more elongated attachment bands can form the closed loop. Fasteners are used to retain the tag assembly in a closed loop when secured to the animal. The fasteners include mounting holes on the margin of the tag body or on the elongated attachment band(s). These holes selectively mount on retention posts, and retention grommets are then locked on the retention posts. The retention posts may have pointed heads to punch an identification card or a separate punch post and punch grommet may be provided. The invention contemplates a kit including the tag assembly, an identification card and a marking device.

Abstract: An identification device wherein a flexible elongated strap is adapted for disposition into encircling relation about an extremity of an animal, such as, the legs or neck, comprising at least opposite ends of the strap composed of a heat-fusible, inelastic material. Opposite ends of the strap are temporarily secured as a preliminary to permanent fastening, and temporary securing means in the form of complementary fastening members at opposite ends of the strap operate to secure opposite ends in overlapping relation to one another. A partially embedded heating element in one end of the strap projects in contacting relation with the other end and has a melting point above that of the material of the opposite ends so that when current is applied thereto sufficient to melt the strap, it will simultaneously fuse opposite ends of the strap together.
