Patent number: 8764328Abstract: The PB Reader solves the problem that the e-reader presents: the e-reader has a non-paper screen and printed documents need assembly, binding, and page turning via hands. This is an electronic, mechanical device that can quickly search, review and print documents and that has text-to-speech and remote control functionality. The unit is rectangular in shape similar as a traditional book, including a viewing window for reading and printing. The unit is fed by two paper-belt rollers, across which images and printed text are displayed. The two paper-belt rolls, which are held by two square axles that are driven by the stepping motor through multiple reduction gears. A pattern of round dots is printed on the bottom side of the paper belt, which can be decoded by a photoelectric sensor to take action of reeling pages. The signals control the stepper motor, allowing the reader to reel the page forward or backward, or jump directly to a specific position.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2011Date of Patent: July 1, 2014Inventors: Yan Zhang, Tianlan Zhang

Patent number: 5312284Abstract: A toy computer includes a keyboard housing and a monitor housing pivotally secured by a hinge coupler. A depressible keyboard unit is pivotally supported by the keyboard housing and is coupled to a movable slider within the interior of the keyboard housing. A return spring is coupled to the slider and is operative to pivot the slider such that a ratchet engaging tooth is raised to its engagement position in the absence of a keyboard unit stroke. An endless belt display utilizes a cylindrical lens element array together with a segmented image formed on the endless belt to provide apparent motion of the image as the endless belt is moved. A ratchet coupling system is coupled between the slider and the movable belt to provide incremental belt motions in response to each keyboard stroke.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1993Date of Patent: May 17, 1994Assignee: Mattel, Inc.Inventors: David E. Patent number: 5032099Abstract: A toy musical box having an electronic musical sound reproduction circuit and an electric motor drive for an endless band carrying a continuous picture past a window, so that the musical box can resemble a television set. The operation of the sound reproduction circuit and the motor are remotely controlled by sound impulses from a separate hand-held device, the musical box having a microphone and a discriminator to provide an output signal upon receipt of the sound impulses. Preferably a double sound impulse is acquired to operate the musical box, eg. two clicks one immediately following the other, for differentiation from other extraneous sounds.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1990Date of Patent: July 16, 1991Assignee: Blue Box Toy FactoryInventor: Alex Chan

Patent number: 4753396Abstract: A manually operated spool-to-spool winder is provided for inspecting cash register tape which includes a C-shaped framework including a flat base, an upright plate and a horizontal tape supporting plate. A pair of rotatable tape supporting spindles are journaled for rotation in the upright portion of the framework. A large serrated hand wheel is mounted on the inside of the vertical supporting plate and a relatively small knob is connected to the spindle on the outside surface of each support plate for rotating the spindles rapidly. The large diameter hand wheels facilitate slow precision advance of the tape.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1987Date of Patent: June 28, 1988Inventor: Thomas P. Neumann

Patent number: 4469287Abstract: An upright support plate carries a fixed shaft which rotatably receives a cash register tape roll and a rotatable take-up shaft to which the outer end of the cash register tape may be removably attached with the tape extending across a tape support table which is pivotably mounted to the support plate. A tape guide and bearing plate is located parallel to the support plate and is adjustable relative thereto with the cash register tape roll and the take-up shaft located between the two plates.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1982Date of Patent: September 4, 1984Assignee: Psychological Systems Corp.Inventors: Clifford O. Patent number: 4180933Abstract: A device for displaying the definition of words listed alphabetically in sequence on a continuous roll of tape. The tape is rolled past a display window between two rollers each linked by a belt to a reversible motor. A cursor is externally slidably mounted on the housing so as to travel under manual pressure transversely to the direction of travel of the tape, with an electrical contact brush internally mounted to the cursor above the tape which makes contact with a metal idler roller under the tape when the cursor is positioned so that the brush passes through a hole in the tape. A hole is located in the tape at the beginning of each set of words of each letter of the alphabet, with the transverse location of such holes corresponding to markings on the housing to which the cursor may be aligned.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1977Date of Patent: January 1, 1980Inventor: Georges A. Chammah

Patent number: 4136472Abstract: A readout cassette comprises a preferably two-part plastic casing in which two coil shafts are rotatably mounted. The coil shafts serve to receive a thin paper web or the like printed on at least one side. The web is unwrappable manually by means of a rotary knob or through the intermediary of an electric drive from one coil shaft to the other and vice versa in opposite directions behind two readout panels. The readout panels consist of a highly transparent plastic material and cover viewing apertures provided on the front and rear sides of the casing.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1977Date of Patent: January 30, 1979Inventor: Bernd Delvo

Patent number: 3983651Abstract: A reading apparatus is disclosed which is especially adapted for use by handicapped persons. The apparatus presents reading material such as books, magazines, newspapers and the like to be read in the reflected light of normal room lighting or a reading lamp. The reading material comprises a plurality of pages disposed on a continuous sheet or scroll which is contained within a reel to reel cassette. The cassette is received within a console which includes motor means for advancing the sheet and thereby causing the pages to be successively displayed through a window on the console when the reels are driven by the motor means.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1975Date of Patent: October 5, 1976Assignee: The Ealing CorporationInventor: Herbert C.
