Mechanically Actuated Patents (Class 40/353)
  • Patent number: 7676970
Abstract: A display apparatus (10, 10?) for sequentially displacing sheets (A) to a display position, comprising a drive (20) for displacing sheets (A) in a circuit to a display position. An actuator (30) actuates the drive (20). Connector devices (40, 50) connect opposed ends of sheets (A) along the drive (20). Each connector device (40, 50) has (i) a first connector (40) securing a first edge portion (A1) of a sheet (A) to the drive (20), and (ii) a second connector device (50) having a longitudinal member (41?) secured to a second edge portion (A2) of the sheet (A) and connected to the drive (20) so as to be restrictively displaceable along the drive (20). An abutment portion (43?) is securable against the longitudinal member (41?) for retaining the edge portion (A2) of the sheet (A) therebetween. A tensioner (52) connects the longitudinal member (41?) to the drive (20) to maintain the sheet in a taut condition with a predetermined tension.

  • Patent number: 6622406
Abstract: A reading machine is provided comprising a carriage for temporarily receiving and retaining a publication such as a book, magazine or printed sheet, which carriage is slidably inserted into tracks supported by the main body of the reading machine so as to allow horizontal movement of the carriage relative to the main body of the reading machine. A continuous belt is supported by roller bearings disposed about the main body of the reading machine such that the belt covers the carriage when the carriage is attached to the reading machine. The belt includes a horizontal member having an opening therein, which opening extends through the belt itself and being of substantially the same size of a line of text such that the opening and belt may be used to isolate individual lines of text. The machine includes a control device for manually or automatically controlling the vertical displacement of the belt and the horizontal member by an electric motor or by a knob or handle.

  • Patent number: 5414946
Abstract: A multi-purpose document holder which can be used with documents printed in either the landscape or portrait positions. Adjustably slidable line-guides are used to indicate a position within a document. Line-guides are provided for use of the device in both the landscape and portrait positions, and can be incorporated into the device as removable or non-removable members. This multi-purpose document holder is further provided with a document chamber having a spring-loaded backing plate to accommodate a stack of documents while maintaining the topmost document in contact with a line-guide. A document storage compartment is provided to house completed work, and a bi-functional stand is used to hold the device in a substantially vertical position when used in either the landscape or portrait positions.

  • Patent number: 5088217
Abstract: An apparatus wherein a line reader support housing is mounted to an articulated framework that in turn is securable to a support table. The line reader housing includes a transparent reader bar in operative relationship with a step motor to effect vertical repositioning of the reader bar relative to an underlying sheet member.

  • Patent number: 5040913
Abstract: A positioning unit for use in completing forms at a word processing station having a display unit, a computer, a text input device and a printer. The positioning unit has a transparent contact plate into which a copy of the form is placed and underneath which a movable position marker directs onto the copy a light dot which is moved in synchronism with a cursor on a screen of a display unit. The position marker is mounted on a frame below the contact plate and is movable in line and column directions parallel to the contact plate so as to follow the movement of the cursor, so that an operator can observe where on a corresponding form in the printer text entered into a computer via the input device and viewable on the screen, will be typed on the printer.

  • Patent number: 3949492
Abstract: A writing guide having a paper support surface, a paper retaining clip, a stiff writing guide strip with an elongated slot and a mechanism for stepwise moving the strip from the top to the bottom of the paper. The mechanism includes a square stop bar with sets of spaced stops protruding from each face thereof. The strip carries an abutment finger. The stop bar is mounted for unidirectional rotation about an axis parallel to the direction of motion of the strip so that a set of stops lies in the path of travel of the finger. A knob at one end of the bar is manually rotated, removing one set of stops from the path of travel and moving the next set into the path, the stop sets being longitudinally offset so that the finger can move longitudinally from one stop to the next. A spring continually urges the strip and finger toward the bottom of the page. A guide supports the strip and maintains it in proper position relative to the stop bar and the support surface.
