  • Patent number: 5442869
Abstract: A unique, visually exciting, fully animated crystal ball or globe display system is attained by providing a dual chamber globe assembly, with one chamber substantially peripherally surrounding the second chamber and incorporating any desired fluid therein. With the animated scene in the second chamber, the resulting crystal ball or globe display system provides the visual impression of being fully animated and fluid-filled. In the preferred embodiment, the fluid comprises any desired liquid and contains particles therein for further visual enhancement. In addition, the liquid and particles are continuously recirculated throughout the chamber to enable both the liquid and particles to be continuously swirling, thereby providing additional visual enhancements and entertainment.

  • Patent number: 5396723
Abstract: A crystal ball has a rotatable and vertically movable liquid dispensing spout inside a glass ball. The crystal ball also has a fixture frame for converting the rotational motion of a flexible shaft driven by a music box or bell into a rotational and a reciprocal axial movement for a main shaft. The fixture frame is comprised of a lower lid having a sinusoidal guide rail on the inner walls that is engaged by axial projections or columns depending from the sides of an upper lid. Also a pump housing is associated with the upper lid of the fixture frame, and a piston disk sleeved at a proper position on the main shaft, produces a compression as a result of its relative motion in the space defined by the housing. The piston pumps a colorful fluid loaded in the housing of the pump up to the spout for a sprayed ejection which produces the effect of a kaleidoscopical, dynamic variation of a fantastic crystal ball.

Abstract: A bubble-propelled amusement device in which play pieces are dispersed in a water bath contained in an enclosed transparent tank having on its bottom wall an air nozzle and having in the air space above the bath an air intake, the pieces normally tending to sink toward the nozzle. Below the tank is a pump assembly comprising an air chamber coupled to a player-operated bellows, the chamber being provided with an air outlet and an air inlet, each having a check valve therein. The air outlet is coupled to the nozzle so that when the bellows is actuated by the player and compressed, the resultant positive air pressure in the chamber causes the outlet valve to open to feed air into the nozzle which injects into the water bath a stream of air bubbles that act to propel play pieces toward a target, the bubbles then being discharged into the air space.

  • Patent number: 4892250
Abstract: Dynamic fountain displays and methods of creating the same for providing water displays wnich may substantially constantly vary in interesting and seemingly endless ways. In one form, the fountains are comprised of a matrix of fountain nozzles positioned below a deck formed with open joint paving so as to be useable as a patio or walkway when the fountain is not used. Each nozzle is connected to a source of water under pressure through a proportional control system for that nozzle responsive to a computer output so that each nozzle may be independently and proportionally controlled by the computer as desired. To facilitate the programming of the settings for a large array of nozzles, a plurality such as 256 individual patterns for the array of nozzles are first mutually programmed.

Abstract: A novelty device for representing an outdoor scene includes an outer portion configured to resemble the interior of a room and having an opening which may represent a door or a window for viewing the outdoor scene. An inner portion is positioned behind this opening, and the inner portion contains artwork representing the outdoor scene and a fluid containing particles adapted to be spread throughout the fluid. In this way, the inner portion can be shaken to spread the particles throughout the fluid so that they may settle by gravity to resemble falling objects such as snow or autumn leaves traditionally found in the outdoors. The inner piece may be divided into two compartments which represent different seasons of the same outdoor scene and, in this way, the inner piece can be removed with either of its scenes positioned behind the opening to illustrate either of two outdoor scenes.

Abstract: A decorative ball device mainly comprises a transparent hollow sphere which contains a liquid. A puppet together with a plurality of small pieces are disposed in the sphere. The sphere has a pump case and a skirt at its bottom. A sealing ring locates between the inner periphery of the skirt and the outer periphery of the pump case. The sealing ring has a central aperture respectively communicating with an inlet and an outlet channels in the pump case. A supporting plate for supporting the puppet is disposed in the sphere. The supporting plate possesses a pair of holes each communicating with the central aperture. The holes respectively correspond to the outlet and inlet channels. In operation, when a blade in the pump case is driven to rotate by a motor. The pieces along with the liquid are driven to circulate within the sphere thereby creating a both dynamic and attractive effect.

Abstract: An article for producing an interesting visual effect is disclosed. The article has a translucent or transparent conduit extending in a loop defining a path of fluid flow. A portion of the loop is contained in an opaque container and a portion extends out of the container. A pump moves a stream of liquid containing phosporescent particles through the conduit. A light in the container charges the particles immediately prior to their movement through the portion of the conduit outside the container where the glow from the moving particles are observable through the conduit wall. Continued operation continuously moves the particles past the light for recharging.

  • Patent number: 4693025
Abstract: A display element including a sealed housing filled with an opaque, translucent or colored transparent liquid and having a screen therein colored on its front side and movable back and forth within the housing. The housing has a front transparent panel such that, when the screen is displaced in one direction, the colored front side of the screen is visible through the transparent panel. When the screen is displaced in the other direction, the colored front side of the screen is obscured or hidden from view by the liquid, which may be white or a color different from that of the screen. In one alternate embodiment, the transparent panel of the housing includes colored message indicia therein, which color matches either the liquid color or that of the colored front side of the screen, the other color contrasting. When the screen is moved in one direction, the message indicia disappears; in the other direction, the contrasting background color makes the message indicia readily visible.
