  • Patent number: 6682233
Abstract: In a wire dot printer head of the present invention, an armature is formed by coupling a magnetic circuit formation member having a supported piece with one end inserted into a cavity formed on a surface of a yoke to an arm coupled to a wire. The supported piece of the armature is rotatably supported by a support point, thereby a side surface of the cavity and a side surface of the supported piece, and a bottom surface of the cavity and an end surface of the supported piece can be set in the proximity. Accordingly, magnetic resistance between the magnetic circuit formation member and the yoke can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 4875788
Abstract: The printwheel setting apparatus comprises a voice coil motor having a magnet reciprocating in a coil which magnet is connected by a flexible link to a picker link for advancing the printwheel. The picker link has a picker cam which cooperates with a cam stud to cause a tooth on the picker-link to engage a slot on the printwheel and to rotate the printwheel as the voice coil motor magnet moves to a position for again advancing the printwheel when the magnet moves in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4846715
Abstract: A voice coil motor assembly for a voice coil motor printwheel setting apparatus comprises a plate having the voice coil motor coils mounted thereon. The plate is adapted for attachment to a printed circuit board by pins electrically connected to the voice coils. Picker links having voice coil magnets connected thereto are stacked in sequence and the final assembly is completed by enshrouding the voice coil magnets with the voice coils mounted on the plate.

  • Patent number: 4810115
Abstract: A character selecting mechanism for a printer having a plurality of type wheel units arranged axially on a shaft. The character selecting mechanism comprises a plurality of electromagnetic clutches each having a solenoid, a sleeve rotatably received in the center hole of the solenoid and rotated continuously during a printing cycle, and a pair of selector plates resiliently pressed against the opposite end surfaces of the sleeve, respectively, so as to be attracted to the sleeve and to be turned by the sleeve when the solenoid is energized, having tongues facing opposite to each other to form part of a magnetic path for the magnetic lines of force of the solenoid with a small gap therebetween and in contact with each other through a small contact area. Each electromagnetic clutch controls a pair of type wheel units to stop the respective type wheels of the pair of type wheel units individually to position the selected characters of the type wheels at the printing position.

  • Patent number: 4423972
Abstract: A small and light-weight serial printer adapted to portable electric-powered typewriters and output devices of personal computers. The serial printer of the present invention requires a reduced number of drive sources and is simply constructed. The serial printer further possesses a small and light-weight carriage which does not mount drive sources such as motors or electromagnets and which does not mount a hammering mechanism, either.

  • Patent number: 4352576
Abstract: A printer having clutches for selectively transmitting the driving power from a single motor to a rotary shaft for rotating the type wheels and to a hammer drive shaft for driving a hammer is described. The clutches are under the control of a single controlling member so that the typing operation can be accomplished by the power furnished by a single motor having a shaft which need rotate continuously in one direction only.

  • Patent number: 4275653
Abstract: A printer system comprising a belt printer mechanism controlled by a stored program digital microprocessor to print lines of data on a print medium. Selective operation of a linear array of print hammers, paper feeding, data conversion and arranging in scan/subscan order are performed by the microprocessor. The fire data for operating hammers is precalculated and arranged in scan/subscan order during the print medium feeding interval with printing occurring immediately at the first print scan after print medium motion in which one or more desired characters become aligned with print hammers. An indirect addressing technique which eliminates sorting is used to arrange the print position fire data in scan/subscan order.

  • Patent number: 4273041
Abstract: A belt printer control system for attachment to a host system has a first microprocessor connected by a dedicated bus to the host system and control elements operable to perform carriage control, belt drive, and ribbon drive operations of the printer mechanism. A second microprocessor is connected by a dedicated bus structure to controls for operating the print hammers. A common RAM is accessed by the two microprocessors through a common bus structure. The first microprocessor passes control and print information to the RAM for use by the second microprocessor in building print algorithm tables in the RAM for use by the second microprocessor to operate the print hammers. Communication between the microprocessors is done through control information stored by the microprocessors in the common RAM. Storing printing information and building of tables and controlling printing and nonprinting operations of the print mechanism are done concurrently.

  • Patent number: 4244291
Abstract: A serial printer includes two character rings having raised characters disposed therearound. Both rings rotate on a common axis for selection of characters for printing. One character ring is laterally fixed relative to the common axis; the other character ring translates laterally along the common axis in a carriage driven by a pulley and wire, and biased for quick return. A solenoid actuated claw selects characters for printing as the character rings rotate. A single motor operating in a forward direction causes the character rings to rotate while character selections are made, sequentially causes a single hammer to strike both character rings simultaneously for printing on paper, and translates the carriage one position for serially printing the next digit in a number. Reversal of the motor, after a line of characters is printed, causes release and return of the carriage and advancement of the paper.
