Abstract: A printer retracts the platen and transportation rollers when a cover is opened while avoiding interference with parts inside the printer without hindering smooth opening and closing of the cover, increasing printer size, or requiring a large space around the printer. The printer 10 has a frame (cover 12 and unit frame 27) having a paper storage unit 13 for storing a paper roll P1, a cover 28 for opening and closing an opening 26 to the paper storage unit 13, a print head 16 for printing on the roll paper from the paper roll P1, a movable platen 17 freely rotatably coupled to the cover 28 for guiding the back of the roll paper at a proximal position opposite the print head 16, and an abutment 35 for engaging a engagement lever 36 and rotating the movable platen 17 in a contrary direction in conjunction with opening and closing the cover 28.

Abstract: A web feeding and handling system for feeding a two-ply web to a printer and winding one of the webs about a take-up spool and directing the remaining web into a cutter. The printer and web feed system are arranged in a housing having an access opening sealed by a door. The printer and a feed roller holder assembly are mounted upon a plate movable between a position enhancing access to the printer and supply roll holder to facilitate supply roll replacement and feeding the web into the printer, and a position placing the printer web output end closer boa cutter and a take-up assembly mounted upon the door and including a rotatable drive disk and a spindle support which support a removable spindle to wind up one web. A motor drive mounted within the housing engages the drive disk when the door is closed and is disengaged from the disk when the door is open. The supply roll holder receives and automatically aligns the web to prevent skewing.

Abstract: A drive apparatus for a printer mechanism including a printhead comprises first and second print medium drive means for feeding first and second print mediums past the printhead, a main drive gear rotatable in a first direction for driving the first print medium drive means and rotatable in a second direction for driving the second print medium drive means, selectively engageable drive means alternately engageable with the first and second print medium drive means for driving the first print medium drive means in a first direction when the main drive gear is rotated in the first direction and driving the second print medium drive means in a second direction when the main drive gear is rotated in the second direction and locking means for locking the first print medium drive means when the main drive gear is rotated in the second direction.

Abstract: The printer includes at least a receipt paper feeding and printing mechanism and a journal paper feeding and printing mechanism each operated in synchronism by a control circuit. A mechanical switching means is provided in either one of the receipt and journal paper feeding and printing mechanism adapted to be operated for rendering it to be inoperative and a switch is provided connecting the one of the receipt and journal paper feeding and printing mechanism to the control circuit. The switch is operatively coupled with the switching means so that, when the one of the receipt and journal paper feeding and printing mechanisms is rendered to be inoperative by the switching means, the switch is opened so as to electrically disconnect the one of the receipt and journal paper feeding and printing mechanism from the control circuit.
