Patent number: 8243298Abstract: A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer usable program code are provided for detecting a printer condition. A set of signals is received from a sensor in a printer. A current state of a paper roll within the printer is detected within the set of signals. Responsive to the current state indicating that the paper roll moved from a desired position between a set of devices, a response signal is sent to the user of the printer. Alternatively, in response to the current state indicating that the paper roll moved from the desired position, a number of paper line feed commands that are issued are counted. A determination is made as to whether the number of paper line feed commands that are issued exceeds a predetermined value. Responsive to the number of paper line feed commands exceeding the predetermined value, the response signal is sent.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2007Date of Patent: August 14, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Stacy Leigh Bongrazio, Richard Hunter Harris, Robert Dean Yoder

Patent number: 4164376Abstract: In a high speed printer, a system is provided for permitting paper feed optionally through openings at the front, bottom and rear of the printer housing. First and second spaced parallel arcuate rear guide members define a rear guideway leading paper from the rear opening to the front of the printer platen. Third and fourth spaced arcuate guide members define another paper guideway from the front opening; these front guide members terminate at a position forward of the frontmost plane of the rear guide members. A downwardly extending paper guideway, facilitating entry of paper from the bottom opening, is defined between the terminal portions of the front and rear guide members.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1977Date of Patent: August 14, 1979Assignee: Dataproducts CorporationInventor: Russel E.
