Abstract: An image processing apparatus which is capable of merging character strings with an original image without causing garbling. A first storage unit stores first character codes corresponding to a first language in accordance with administrator's input. A second storage unit stores a second character codes corresponding to a second character in accordance with login user's input. A reading unit reads an original image in accordance with login user's input. A generation unit generates a first character image corresponding to the first language on the basis of the first character codes and generates a second character image corresponding to the second language on the basis of the second character codes. A printing unit carries out a printing process based on the first character image, the second character image and the original image.

Abstract: A printer includes a paper holder which includes a shaft portion for supporting roll paper, and a movable member in a predetermined vertical height position near and above a first end portion of the shaft portion. The movable member is configured to be displaced along an extending direction of the shaft portion between a pressing position, in which the movable member is brought into contact with and pressed against an end surface of the roll paper supported by the shaft portion, and a non-pressing position, in which the movable member is not in contact with the end surface of the roll paper. The movable member is also biased toward the non-pressing position. A movable member detector is configured to detect that the movable member is in the non-pressing position, and a remaining amount notifier is configured to notify that a remaining amount of the roll paper is low.

Abstract: A media loading device includes a detachable stiffener that is detachably connected to a leading portion of a soft media and supports the leading portion of the soft media during threading of the soft media through a media path of a printer. A method for loading soft media includes detachably connecting a leading edge of soft media onto a detachable stiffener and placing the detachable stiffener and soft media into a printer. The detachable stiffener and soft media are fed through the media path in the printer.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer usable program code are provided for detecting printer conditions. A set of signals are received from a sensor in a printer. A current state of the printer from a plurality of states is detected within the set of signals. Responsive to the current state being a selected state, a response signal is sent to the printer based on a policy. The response signal is a printer condition, which may be a paper jam, out-of-paper, or a cover open condition.

Abstract: A method and system for determining whether a first one of a plurality of labels on a roll of label stock is a full label. The method includes sensing a leading edge of the roll of label stock, sensing a location of a first one of a plurality of indicator marks that are printed on the back side of the roll of label stock, sensing a location of second one of the plurality of indicator marks, sensing a location of one of a plurality of top of form marks that are printed on the back side of the roll of label stock. The method further includes determining whether the first one of the plurality of labels is a full label based on the leading edge of the roll of label stock, the location of the first one of the plurality of indicator marks, the location of the second one of the plurality of indicator marks, and the location of the one of the plurality of top of form marks.

Abstract: A tape printer includes a holder support member at one side end in a roll sheet holder storage part in a direction substantially perpendicular to a feeding direction. In the holder support member, a mounting piece which is substantially rectangular in section and formed protruding outward on a positioning holding member of a roll sheet holder is fitted. The tape printer further includes a flat portion formed substantially horizontally between a rear edge of an insertion opening through which a roll sheet is inserted into the tape printer. On the flat portion, a front portion of a guide member is placed. At a rear edge of the flat portion in the feeding direction, at plural positions corresponding to various kinds of the roll sheets having different widths, there are formed four second positioning grooves in which part of the guide member is fitted.

Abstract: In a printer, when a cover is closed, a paper issuing path, and a paper setting path are formed downstream from a cutter mechanism in a paper transport path. The paths are switched over by a movable guide. During a normal printing process, the movable guide is swung by its own weight to close the paper setting path, and guides a paper to the paper issuing path. By contrast, during a process of setting paper, the movable guide is swung by the rigidity of the paper itself toward the paper issuing path, whereby the paper is prevented from being deformed with respect to the cutter mechanism.

Abstract: A tape printer includes a roll sheet holder storage part of which a bottom is formed with a positioning recess which is rectangular in plan view and long sideways and has a predetermined depth. A discrimination recess rectangular in plan view is provided between the positioning recess and an inner base end of a holder support member). The discrimination recess fittingly receives a sheet discrimination part extending in a predetermined length from a lower end of the positioning holding member inward at substantially right angle thereto. The sheet discrimination part is formed with sensor holes arranged in an L-shaped pattern. In the discrimination recess, there are provided sheet discrimination sensors arranged in an L-shaped pattern.

Abstract: A media cartridge is constructed as a case in which a roll of blank media may be deployed for supplying a wallpaper printer. The case has two halves, hinged together. An area between the two halves, when they are closed, defines a media supply slot. The case has internally and adjacent to the slot, a pair of rollers. At least one of the rollers is a driven roller which is supported at each end, by the case, for rotation by an external motor.

Abstract: A label printing apparatus for accommodating a plurality of widths of rolled label stock is provided. The label printing apparatus includes a frame, a label stock support arm extending from the frame, and a print head located for having label stock pass thereby for printing. The label stock support arm may have at least two stepped regions for supporting rolled label stock, including a first stepped region with edges spaced apart by a first distance corresponding to a first width of label stock and a second stepped region with edges spaced apart by a second distance corresponding to a second width of label stock. One or more label stock guides may include recessed regions for guiding different widths of label stock. A movable wall may also be provided. The various features could also be provided in connection with printers using rolled print media other than label stock.

Abstract: A pinion wheel for a spitter mechanism of a tape printer includes a first surface that does not engage with a tape, and a second surface for contact with a portion of the tape. Rotation of the pinion wheel causes the second surface to engage and move the portion of tape. In an implementation, the first surface has a first curvature and the second surface has a second curvature. The first surface may be flat and the second surface may be arcuate. In another implementation, a tape printer includes a printer body, a printing means, a cutting means for cutting a tape, and a spitter mechanism for moving a portion of the tape. The spitter mechanism includes an element rotatable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, a first surface does not engage the portion of tape, and in the second position a second surface engages the portion of tape. Rotation of the element to the second position causes the portion of tape to be moved.

Abstract: A method for substantially removing “roll-set curl” in a rolled print medium. Roll-set curl, as the name implies, may be defined as the “memory” a print medium has which causes the print medium to tend to return to the shape it had while on the core, once the print medium is unrolled. Additionally, a method for printing on both sides of a print medium in which a roll-set curl has been substantially removed. In one respect, according to a preferred embodiment, a take-up reel is utilized to substantially remove the roll-set curl.

Abstract: A method is provided for reserving a portion of web to be used as a leader portion. A measurement of the length of a web is obtained, and a plurality of print jobs are received. At least one print job length is determined, and an operation involving the at least one print job length and the web length is performed. In a preferred embodiment, the operation is performed by subtracting a sum of the lengths of the plurality of print jobs from the web length to obtain a difference. Also provided is a system for producing custom printed articles.

Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a printer having a ribbon guide capable of reflecting light emitted from a paper detection sensor away from the paper detection sensor in the absence of a printing paper. As a result, the possibility of erroneous recognition of paper detection is eliminated. There are provided a print head 1, a ribbon guide 3 attached to the print head, and a reflection-type paper detection sensor 4 arranged on a side of the platen in a manner opposed to a printing paper P passing between the platen and the ribbon guide 3 to emit light for detecting the printing paper. The ribbon guide 3 is formed with sloped surfaces 3b and 3d that are inclined relative to a surface of a printing paper P to reflect the light emitted from the paper detection sensor 4 toward a position away from the paper detection sensor.

Abstract: A tape printing apparatus has a tape exit having a slit defined by a pair of opening edges opposed to each other. The slit includes a tape setting space facing a cutter and a tape guide space defined on the tape setting space in a manner continuous with the tape setting space, for guiding a leading end portion of a printing tape to be inserted into the tape setting space from above. The tape guide space is formed such that said tape guide space extends in a curved manner.

Abstract: A method and device to control a paper drive mechanism of an electrographic printer or copier by friction feed. Optical markings are provided on the recording medium, and a sensor scans an area of the recording medium for the optical marking during transport of the recording medium. An evaluation device evaluates the signals from the sensor for two successive markings corresponding to page length. High speed conveyance of the recording medium is controlled according to page length identified by the evaluation device.

Abstract: Feed accessory apparatus and process for feeding the tail of a material web into a roll machine. The apparatus includes an infeed section, a discharge section, a gripper head, and a carrier. The gripper head is pivotably arranged on the carrier to pivot around a swivel axis to be located in at least one of an infeed position and a discharge position. The process includes receiving a threading end of a material web in the apparatus while it is in an infeed position, and pivoting the apparatus around a swivel axis into a discharge position.
