And Gauge For Tear-off Length Patents (Class 400/621.2)
  • Patent number: 8616794
Abstract: In a printer that prints to continuous paper, starting to backfeed the recording paper for printing the next print job before the user cuts the previously printed page can be prevented. The printer prints while conveying recording paper delivered from fanfold paper through a transportation path, and after printing cuts the recording paper using a cutter disposed near the paper exit. When printing ends, the control unit positions the perforation at the trailing end of the printed page to a cutting position, and sets a tear-off state holding the recording paper where positioning was completed. When new print data is received while in the tear-off state, the recording paper transportation operation is prohibited and the tear-off state is continued until a preset delay time passes. When the delay time has passed, the recording paper is immediately fed back and indexed for the next print job.

  • Patent number: 7059794
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for bursting perforated paper stock are provided. A feed mechanism is provided for feeding perforated paper stock in a feed direction along a paper path in a printer. The perforated paper stock has sections separated by perforations. A loop area is provided in the printer for accumulating one of the sections of the perforated paper stock. A burst element is provided for bursting a perforation of the accumulated section. In order to burst the perforation of the accumulated section, the feed direction is reversed to draw the perforation of the accumulated section against the burst element, thereby separating the section from the perforated paper stock. A paper dispensing mechanism is provided for advancing the separated section out of the loop area and dispensing the section from the printer.

  • Patent number: 6652172
Abstract: An apparatus for printing on a continuous web of linerless tape defined by a print side for subsequent application to an article. The apparatus includes a support, a rotatably driven platen roller, a print head, and a stripping apparatus. The support is configured to maintain a continuous web of linerless tape. The rotatably driven platen roller is located downstream of the support. The print head is associated with the platen roller. More particularly, the platen roller directs the continuous web of linerless tape past the print head for printing on the print side thereof. Finally, the stripping apparatus is positioned adjacent the platen roller and downstream of the print head for directing the web of linerless material from the platen roller. In this regard, the stripping apparatus includes a first roller and a second roller. The first roller is positioned to receive and contact the print side of the linerless tape.

  • Publication number: 20010055508
Abstract: A paper cutter assembly for a printer/plotter is mounted on the printhead carriage for movement therewith to avoid separate mounting and guide structure. A cutter wheel is mounted in a housing for cam induced movement between a raised inactive position and a lower active position by engagement of a cam element carrier mounted for movement in the cutter housing with structure on the printer chassis. The printer platen has a stationary cutter bar which extends in a channel in the platen transversely of the path of paper movement and has a cutter wheel receiving well at one end of the channel into which the cutter wheel drops without contacting the platen or cutter bar at commencement of a cutting operation. Camming surfaces on the platen engage the side of a cutter drive wheel to move the cutter wheel into engagement with the cutter bar and then to raise the cutter wheel to the proper amount of operational overlap of the cutting edges as the cutter assembly moves across the paper path.
