Patent number: 6824322Abstract: A receipt issuing method and a receipt printer capable of smoothly performing a receipt issuing operation even if it takes relatively long time to print header information such as a logo. In time period from the detection of input of a print instruction to the completion of output and cutoff of a receipt, only a dealing information print processing and paper feed are executed so as to promptly issue the receipt. In standby time period right after issuance of the receipt is completed and before a data input operation for dealing with a next customer starts, the header information is printed to include time required to print the header information in the standby time. By doing so, even if it takes long time to perform a header information print operation, it is possible to prevent time required to perform the substantial receipt issuing operation itself from increasing.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2002Date of Patent: November 30, 2004Assignee: NEC Infrontia CorporationInventor: Takeo Miyajima

Patent number: 6474884Abstract: The present invention provides a paper tray for a printer or a like device that includes both means for holding paper prior to printing thereon, and means for receiving paper exiting from the printer. In this way a single paper tray can both supply to and receive paper from the printer, and therefore it is only necessary to provide access to one side of the printer in which the tray is inserted. The printer may therefore be incorporated as part of a stack of other electrical/electronic items such as audio-visual equipment.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2000Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventor: Andrew Shun Pui Chiu

Patent number: 6467977Abstract: This invention relates to a media weight sensor of the type that includes a transducer consisting of a metal disk with a piezoelectric element mounted in a printer so that the media going to the printer moves across the top of the resonator where an opening of the resonator is located. A soft, polymeric roller is used to press the media against the transducer. The resonant frequency of the resonator is affected by the media. The mass of the media adds to the mass of the resonator, thereby lowering the resonant frequency. Consequently, the heavier the media, the more the resonant frequency is lowered.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2000Date of Patent: October 22, 2002Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Phillip R.
