Based on an increase in a variation value varying in accordance with a drive load of the motor, the controller controls the motor and causes the feeding roller to start a medium feeding operation.

    Abstract: A platen retaining structure has a head, a platen supporting the sheet material during a processing operation of the sheet material by the head, a first urging member urging the head against the platen, and a frame supporting the head and the platen and formed with a notch and a pawl. The notch has a retaining portion that retains a shaft portion and an opening portion opening to an exterior of the frame. The pawl regulates movement of the shaft portion from the retaining portion to the opening portion of the notch. A release arm engages with the shaft portion and is mounted to undergo movement with respect to the frame. A second urging member urges the release arm and moves the release arm along with movement of the head away from the platen against an urging force of the first urging member, and causes the platen to apply a pressing force in a direction in which the shaft portion of the platen escapes from the notch via the opening portion.

    Abstract: In an image recording apparatus, if a main sheet feed roller is displaced during rotation thereof, a carrier contacted with an outer peripheral surface of the main sheet feed roller via a pressure plate is rotated around a guide shaft upwardly or downwardly. As a result, a position of a nozzle of a recording head held by the carrier is changed. Further, a platen is rotated around support shafts upwardly or downwardly in response to rotation of the carrier around the guide shaft. As a result, a position of a recording surface of the platen is changed. In this way, even if the main sheet feed roller is displaced during rotation thereof, a distance between the nozzle surface of the recording head and a recording medium on the recording surface of the platen is always kept constant.

One straight section of the type belt contacts over its entire length the support designed as a platen.In order to avoid groove on the platen caused by the rotating type belt, and to achieve a distribution of other kinds of wear of the platen over its circumference, a gear motor causes the platen to rotate very slowly (approximately 1 revolution in 72 hours).The platen can also be rotated without a gear motor. For this purpose, the longitudinal axis of the platen is slightly inclined relative to the edge of the type belt. This inclination effects a small movement component in the direction of the platen circumference while the type belt slides along the lateral surface of the platen, said component causing a slow revolution of the platen.

    Abstract: A printing pressure damping mechanism for use with a hand labeler: a hand lever is pivotally connected to the frame of the hand labeler. A printing head is carried by the hand lever so that it may move toward a printing platen when the hand lever is squeezed. An auxiliary lever is spaced from the hand lever and is movable to and from the hand lever. A shock absorbing coil spring is interposed under compression between the hand lever and the auxiliary lever so as to bias the levers apart. The auxiliary lever further moves against the biasing force of the coil spring when the printing head abuts the platen, so that the squeezing force which might otherwise be applied as a printing force by the printing head to the platen can be damped to a preset lever through the spring biased cooperation of the two levers. The platen is also spring biased to damp printing pressure.

    Abstract: A printing pressure damping mechanism for a hand labeler: A printing platen is pivotally mounted on the frame of the hand labeler. The platen has a printing portion at one side of its center of pivotal motion. A hand lever pivotally connected to the frame of the labeler carries a printing head, which is turned toward the printing platen when the hand lever is squeezed against the biasing force of a return spring. Shock-absorbing means, comprising a leaf spring on the hand lever and an elastic abutment member on the other side of the printing platen from the printing portion engage to turn the printing portion of the printing platen toward the printing head. The hand lever is further squeezed and moves to overcome the biasing force of the leaf spring when the printing head abuts against the printing portion of the platen. The squeezing force, which might otherwise be applied as a printing force to the printing platen through the hand lever, is damped to a preset level.
