Magnetically Projected, Retracted, Or Latched Patents (Class 401/100)
  • Patent number: 9676224
Abstract: A modular magnet writing instrument and hobby tool comprises a plurality of permanent magnet segments and a writing cartridge. Each magnet segment is magnetized axially. An aperture extends longitudinally through the entirety of each magnet segment. The writing cartridge has an elongate body, which is sized for coaxial insertion within a magnet segment, or plurality of magnet segments, such that the magnet segments are in sliding engagement with the elongate body. In operation, different combinations of magnet segments can be axially positioned on the elongate body, in a variety of like-pole and unlike-pole interactions, to produce a plurality of writing and hobby tool configurations.

Abstract: A system for plotting a mark drawn on a writing medium, comprising a tool including a first and a second permanent magnet. The first permanent magnet is mechanically linked to a tip. There is a network of magnetometers having N triaxial magnetometers and an electronic computer programmed in order to: a) determine, from the measurements from the triaxial magnetometers, the positions of the two permanent magnets and the orientations of the magnetic moments of said two permanent magnets and b) calculate the relative position and/or relative orientation of the magnetic moment of the first permanent magnet in relation to the orientation of the magnetic moment of the second permanent magnet from the results of step a). The calculated relative position and/or orientation is then used by a device as a value of a physical quantity that is representative of the pressure exerted on the tip.

  • Patent number: 4377349
Abstract: A ball point pen has a cartridge which can be projected by orienting the front end of a ball point pen main body downward and which can be retracted by orienting the front end of the main body upward. A weight with a notch or the like is mounted to the cartridge to shift the overall center of gravity of the cartridge and the weight from the axis of the main body. This allows complete engagement of the distal end portion of the cartridge with an engaging step formed inside the main body, so that accidental retraction of the cartridge back into the main body may be prevented during writing.

  • Patent number: 4352580
Abstract: A knock-out type mechanical pencil has a supporting rod mounted with an eraser at its rear end and axially slidably engaged within the interior of a cylindrical knock-button. A tubularly cylindrical weight is axially slidably engaged around the supporting rod. A cylindrical magnet is axially magnetized and secured to the inner peripheral surface of the knock-button. An annularly inwardly raised guide portion is formed on the inner peripheral surface of the knock-button for guiding the weight to the axial line of the knock-button when the weight is axially slidably dropped downwardly toward the writing tip of the pencil. To protrude and fix an eraser from the rear end of the tubular cylindrical body, the rear end of the pencil is tilted downward. To automatically contain or retract the eraser in the knock-button, the writing tip of the pencil is directed downwardly in writing state.

  • Patent number: 4176979
Abstract: A ball-point pen having simple operating and holding mechanism for ink tube including a ball-point and being capable of retracting and extruding the ball-point with a simple action of turning ball-point tip end of the pen up and down is provided. The ink tube has at its inner end opposite to the ball-point a magnetizable lid and around its body a weight freely slidable between said inner end and a projection provided adjacent the ball-point tip end, while holder tube of the pen has a magnetic member secured adjacent an end facing said lid of the ink tube for magnetically holding said lid and the ink tube when the ball-point is retracted, and a stepped part for locking the lid's end when the ball-point is extruded. When the tip end of the pen is turned down, the weight strikes the projection to separate the lid and hence the ink tube from the magnetic member and, when the tip end is turned up, the weight urges the lid's end to be unlocked from the stepped part.
