  • Patent number: 9308550
Abstract: An applicator for applying a lotion, such as a sunscreen, to the skin includes a handle attached to an axle and a roller mounted to turn on the axle. The roller includes a housing having a central cavity holding the lotion and a number of holes extending between the central cavity and a cylindrical peripheral surface of the housing, which is covered with a porous elastomeric material through which the lotion is evenly applied to the skin. A cover is provided to minimize evaporation and contamination of the lotion during storage of the roller. The roller may be removed from the applicator for storage in a cover formed as a canister, or a clamshell cover may be closed over the roller in place on the applicator.

  • Patent number: 8408834
Abstract: A paint applicator is provided with a handle formed with a paint-entry passage, a first housing half connected to the handle, a second housing half jointed to the first housing half and formed with a plurality of paint exit holes, a non-permeable resilient body disposed on the second housing half and formed with a plurality of apertures, a permeable foamed body, and a brush layer. The apertures are closed in normal conditions and will be opened under pressure. Paint is accumulated in a paint chamber between the first and second housing halves, and then will flow out only when the paint pressure is greater than a deformation threshold value of the non-permeable resilient body. Furthermore, since the apertures are very small and can be evenly and densely distributed over the resilient body, paint will be evenly permeated to the permeable foamed body and the brush layer.

  • Patent number: 6247197
Abstract: A brush assembly includes a distributor having a slot matrix formed in an outer surface of the distributor, the slot matrix including a plurality of longitudinal slots intersecting a plurality of annular slots. The brush assembly further includes a housing having an inner surface abutting the outer surface of the distributor, a brush mounted on the housing and a shaft. During use, the flow of liquid from the shaft to the housing flows through the longitudinal slots and annular slots of the distributor. By appropriately selecting the dimensions and numbers of these slots, the flow of liquid from the shaft to the housing is readily redistributed. For example, the flow of liquid is redistributed to provide a greater amount of liquid to the ends of the brush than to the center of the brush.

  • Patent number: 6045282
Abstract: A tri-roller painting assembly having a main body portion, including a lower handle portion and an upper roller support portion. The upper roller support portion supports a first roller rotationally mounted along the face of the upper support surface, which rotates but is stationary along its rotational axis. There is further provided a pair of movable arms mounted to the upper face portion of the system, with each of the arms movable between a first closed position and a second open position. Each of the arms further includes a roller extending perpendicular therefrom, with the rollers extending therefrom positioned in parallel relation and perpendicular to the first roller. There is further provided a trigger member on the handle so that when the trigger member is squeezed by the user of the apparatus, the movable arms are moved from the first end position to the second out position so that the pair of rollers may accommodate various widths of boards or the like.

  • Patent number: 5997205
Abstract: In order to supply a coating to a roller, a coating supplying groove is provided along only one side of a core which is connected to an end of a support so as to act as a shaft of a roller. A coating reservoir between the roller and the core is located to one side of the core. To permit engagement and disengagement between the support and the core, an elastic member is mounted within a coating flowing hole of the core, while an inserting groove and a stopping groove are provided in the inner peripheral surface of the coating flowing hole of the core. To automatically stop and start the supply of coating to the coating roller, and to adjust the flow rate, the number of revolutions of the roller are detected and used to actuate the coating feed mechanism to supply coating at a flow rate corresponding to the number of revolutions and or direction of rotation of the roller.

  • Patent number: RE46070
Abstract: A method for improving strength of the finished product in paint roller manufacturing processes and other continuous processes for producing tubular goods from polymers. The method utilizes a substrate such as a polypropylene strip with grooves on its surface. The grooved substrate is fed onto a mandrel to form a tube. Adhesive is applied upon the grooved surface of the grooved substrate. A cover may be applied about the tube, and the resulting product is then cut into finished-size paint rollers. The hardened adhesive in the grooves may operate to reduce the hoop-force which would otherwise tend to unwind the wound substrate. The method in certain embodiments provides a reduction in cost and weight of the finished product.
