Patent number: 5984554Abstract: The present invention is an airtight case comprising a base for receiving a stick-type product, a hollow cap, and a hollow plug sleeve inserted within the cap. The plug sleeve has an open end and a closed end, the closed end being a flexible bellows. This case is useful in reducing the adverse effects caused by the pressure build-up associated with sealing or airtight cases. When the cap of the present invention is placed on the base of the case the bellows expands in response to the compressing of the air located within the inner chamber of the case, thus preventing the cap from being pulled away from the base. Also, when the cap is removed, the bellows contracts and prevents the product from being pulled out of the base.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1997Date of Patent: November 16, 1999Assignee: Color Access, Inc.Inventor: Herve F. Patent number: 5336011Abstract: An improved protective storage cap for a rod-shaped device or instrument, particularly a fountain pen, wherein the female threads for securing the device within the cap are disposed within an axially and rotationally moveable ring. The ring is held stationary in the cap by the axial thrust of a compression spring while the male threads of the device are being rotationally engaged with or disengaged from the female threads of the cap. The cap cannot be overtightened and thereby damaged because further rotation of the device after full engagement of the threads serves only to overcome the restraining thrust of the spring and the moveable ring simply rotates in its cap with the device. The axial freedom of the ring and spring also permit the device to enter the cap to a depth sufficient to form a snap seal between the working end of the device and a chamber recessed within the cap, whereby the tool of the device, for example the writing nib of a fountain pen, sealingly is isolated from the outside environment.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1993Date of Patent: August 9, 1994Assignee: Precision Handling Devices IncInventors: Gregory A. Patent number: 5154526Abstract: Protective cap for capillary writing instruments comprised of a relatively flexible outer casing and a relatively rigid inner casing. One end of the outer casing is adapted to form a substantially fluid tight seal on the body of a writing instrument. A flexible sealing means, e.g., spherical, is positioned between the inner sheath and the outer sheath so as to form a substantially fluid tight seal on the tip of a writing instrument inserted into the inner casing and placed in contact with the sealing means. In another embodiment the sealing means located between the outer casing and inner casing is eliminated and the outer casing forms a substantially fluid tight seal by directly contacting the writing instrument tip.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1991Date of Patent: October 13, 1992Assignee: J. Patent number: 5114258Abstract: A cap includes a cap body and a clip attached to the cap body. The cap body has a small portion in a tip side thereof, and the sectional shape of the small portion is smaller than that of the adjacent portion. The clip has an annular mounting portion mounted on the outside of the small portion. An air passage is formed between the mounting portion and the small portion, and adapted for communicating a space before the tip side end with a space between the clip body and the cap body in a tail side portion of the cap. Alternately, a cap is formed with a first air passage between the mounting portion and the small portion for communicating a space before the tip end of the mounting portion and a space after the tail end of the mounting portion, a second air passage formed in the cap body for communicating a space before the cap body and a space after the cap body, the first air passage being connected to the second air passage.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1991Date of Patent: May 19, 1992Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Sakura KurepasuInventor: Masahiro Yasunaga

Patent number: 4759651Abstract: The cap for the writing instrument comprises a jacket mounted slidably on a sealing insert or sleeve which provides a sealed moisture chamber for the writing tip when the cap is on the writing instrument. Near the writing tip there is a circular bulge on the shaft of the writing instrument which enters into a sealing engagement with an interior passage of the sealing insert. On putting the cap on the writing instrument the sealing insert is pushed over the circular bulge until it contacts a contacting stop on the jacket. Then the circular bulge presses tightly into the sealing insert and it locks the jacket to the writing instrument so that the entire arrangement is kept in that position until the cap is removed. A signal slider is attached with the sealing insert which is extendable out from the end of the jacket in order to signal in its extended position the proper seating of the cap on the writing instrument. Erroneous indications of a sealed state are prevented with our invention.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1986Date of Patent: July 26, 1988Assignee: Pelikan AGInventors: Christoph Manusch, Gunter Scholz, Udo Obersteller, Heinrich Schoop, Friedrich Dralle, Manfred Brummer, Uwe Femmer, Christian Hofmann, Gunter Ulrich
