Patent number: 6244774Abstract: A capillary writing medium colorant reservoir system for a writing instrument and process for producing the colorant reservoir. The main problem in such colorant reservoirs is the storage time. During this time, the writing capacity of new writing instruments declines since the walls of the writing instruments are, if only slightly, permeable to solvents. In the long run a stored writing instrument thus dries out and loses the major proportion of its original writing capacity. To this end, the invention has a colorant reservoir with an elongated reservoir body made of fibrous material. The reservoir body is surrounded by a sleeve which is permeable to liquids and gases and gives the reservoir body its shape. The reservoir stores colorant to produce liquid writing medium, the colorant being stored between the fibers of the fibrous material of the reservoir body in dry form. A single-part or multipart wick projects from either side of the reservoir body.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1999Date of Patent: June 12, 2001Assignee: Merz & Krell GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4895468Abstract: A brush with automatic water shut-off is disclosed. The brush includes a handle portion pivotally connected to a body portion with a valve chamber intermediate to control water flow through the brush. A flutter valve is loosely positioned within the valve chamber and is continuously biased toward the valve chamber seat by the water pressure. An operating rod is movable within the body portion and extends past the plane of the seat. When the brush is not in use, water pressure forces the flutter valve toward the seat and contact between the flutter valve and the operating rod causes the body portion and handle portion to be pivotally offset with no water flowing. When the brush bristles contact the surface to be cleaned, the body and brush portions are urged into axial alignment about the pivot whereby the operating rod will force the flutter valve off of its seat, thereby automatically causing water flow through the brush.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1988Date of Patent: January 23, 1990Inventor: Gilmore H. Chappell

Patent number: 4764047Abstract: A brush for home use such as washing cars and patios. The brush includes a body having a plurality of dependent bristles and defining a first compartment for a receiving soap and a second compartment for receiving rinse water. The body also includes an elongate tube partially defining each of the compartments. The first compartment has an outlet for providing soapy water to the bristles while the second compartment has an outlet for providing rinse water. A spool valve is slidable back and forth in the tube with the valve having a tubular wall defining an axial bore open to the conduit and an opening extending through the wall for communicating water to either of the compartments. Seals are carried by the spool valves flanking the opening to provide watertight seals between the valve and the tube. The brush also includes a thumb switch for reciprocating the valve along a linear path among a soap position, a rinse position, and an off position where water is supplied to neither of the compartments.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1987Date of Patent: August 16, 1988Assignee: Suncast CorporationInventors: Damon A. Patent number: 4696593Abstract: A car washing mitt constituting a flexible glove adapted to be worn on the hand of a user, having a palm pad formed of sponge material, and a liquid soap reservoir also mounted on the glove. A flexible water hose may be connected to a control device mounted on the glove, and the control device includes a manually operable selector valve, which may be set to deliver water selectively either directly to the interior of the pad, or to the interior of the pad after intermixture thereof with soap from the reservoir, or to a jet directed forwardly from the tip of the glove for rinsing purposes.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1986Date of Patent: September 29, 1987Inventor: James D. Bayless

Patent number: 4629347Abstract: A fluid pressure cleaning apparatus for cleaning large or inaccessible surfaces, such as a floor or truck sidewall. A housing has a manifold assembly mounted in the interior thereof with a plurality of linearly aligned spray nozzles spaced apart to provide a continuous spray or curtain of cleaning fluid to the surface to be cleaned. Portions of the manifold assembly extend through the housing and are connected to a handle assembly. A first brush array lines the outer edges of the housing and confines the spray from the manifold assembly and assists in cleaning the surface. A second array of scrub brushes is provided within the periphery of the first array. In one form of the cleaning apparatus the manifold assembly has a fluid discharge port and a valve selectively operable to open and close the port. When the valve is closed high pressure fluid is discharged from the nozzles to wash and rinse the surface. Detergent and fluid is directed unto the surface when the valve is open.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1984Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Inventor: Harold A. Poppitz

Patent number: 4575270Abstract: An improved hose end sprayer is provided in which chemical concentrate from a reservoir circumscribing a tube secured to the end of the hose is gradually fed into a liquid stream passing through the tube. A back pressure baffle is fitted within the tube between a pair of holes spaced in the tube in the portion thereof circumscribed by the reservoir walls. A first of the holes permits gradually release of liquid concentrate within the reservoir when under pressure into the tube. This hole is positioned downstream of the baffle. A partition within the chamber is fitted over the tube, at least a portion thereof being movable under pressure from liquid within the tube passing through the second hole upstream of the baffle into the reservoir. This action causes sufficient pressure on the concentrate to cause its gradual release through the first hole into the tube.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1984Date of Patent: March 11, 1986Assignee: Dustbane Products LimitedInventor: Dennis A. Patent number: 4516870Abstract: A griddle cleaning device which is capable of cleaning griddles with high efficiency and with a minimum of labor, and which is very good from the sanitary standpoint. The device includes a brush having a base with an outlet opening, a multitude of bristles secured to the base, and a hollow handle connected with the base. The handle has one end in communication with the outlet opening in the base, and the other end coupled with a hose. The hose is adapted to be placed in selective communication with a detergent tank, a water source, and a rinse tank under the control of a control unit so that the bristles are fed with one of a cleaning liquid, water and a rinsing liquid through the hose, the hollow interior of the brush handle and the outlet opening. The device also includes a sensor attachable to the upper surface of a griddle and connected to the control unit for detecting detergent concentration in the rinsing water.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1983Date of Patent: May 14, 1985Inventor: Teiji Nakazato
