  • Patent number: 4744689
Abstract: In a standard binder, the improvement comprising the provision of a closure connected by a hinge to one of the covers at an outside edge thereof, a ledge on the closure and having an upper surface, the surface located at a distance from the cover to which the closure is connected approximately equal to the distance between the inner faces of the two covers at the spine, whereby the covers are maintained in substantially parallel relationship to each other regardless of the amount of paper in the binder. In alternate forms of the binder, a flap is provided which is releasably secured to one of the covers. The flap may overlie or be tucked under the other cover, and the closure and ledge are so arranged that the covers are approximately parallel when the binder is closed and secured.

  • Patent number: 4591187
Abstract: A device for retaining a book, such as a telephone directory, in a holder or on a flat surface, in order to prevent unauthorized removal or theft of the book. A plurality of pin-like retainer members are mounted in a pair of mounting members in laterally spaced, parallel relation. The number of retainers is determined by the thickness of the book. The pointed ends of the pin-like retainer members are shifted into the ends of the book and the assembly is secured either to the flat surface or to a support bar that is riveted or otherwise secured to the inner surface of the back of the holder. The pin-like retainers are frictionally retained either in a series of laterally spaced slots or bores in the mounting members so as not to be removable therefrom without the use of a tool and a substantial amount of force.

  • Patent number: 4588321
Abstract: The following specification sets forth a magnetic media and program storage case that is formed substantially from a single injection molded container. The injection molded container is formed with two major faces or covers and a binding or spine therebetween having a living hinge holding said major covers. An end closure or flap is hinged to one of the major covers by a living hinge. The flap incorporates tabs having tangs or barbs thereon for insertion within openings within the edge region of one of the covers. One of the major covers has a ring binder connected thereto for receipt of printed documentation in the form of a program, while said magnetic media is stored within a pocket including a pocket flap or cover that is attached to one of said major interior cover surfaces. The attachment can be by means of insertion tabs within an undercut channel or groove of said major cover. The foregoing provides for an entire cover for a printed program or instructions and magnetic media associated therewith.

  • Patent number: 4261664
Abstract: A one-piece binder blank is die cut from plastic sheet stock and formed with integral straps and strap keepers to fasten loose leaves in the binder. The blank is scored to form one or more fold lines defining a spine between front and back covers. At spaced positions along the spine, the back cover is cut out to form a plurality of binder straps integrally connected at their bases with the cover and having barbed heads at their free ends. At corresponding opposite locations, the front cover is cut to form two spaced slits and the strips of material between the slits are stretched and displaced to form low arched keepers through which the barbed ends are passed to secure the straps to the front cover. The straps are longer than the distance between the strap bases and the keepers when the binder is open flat, and stand arched across the spine so as to allow loose leaves thereon to swing freely from flat against one cover to flat against the other.

  • Patent number: 4227328
Abstract: The invention discloses a display device of the type which opens up like a book having a first display side and a second display side, a flexible backing means connects the first and second sides and permits the first side to fold over the second side. An upstanding wall portion runs along the outer edge portions of the second side and forms a receptacle therewith. A plurality of picture storing elements are attached to said backing means and permit rotation of the picture storing elements into and out of the receptacle or onto the first side. Fastening means are fixed to the first side for enabling attachment of display elements to the fastening means on the first side, and further fastening means are fixed to the second side for enabling attachment of display elements to the fastening means on the second side.
