Abstract: A ring binder mechanism has a housing and hinge plates supported for pivoting movement by the housing. The mechanism has rings, each including a first ring member mounted on a first hinge plate and a second ring member. The first ring member is movable relative to the second ring member between open and closed positions. The mechanism has a travel bar and a locking element that are free of fixed connection to the hinge plates and movable in translation relative to the housing and hinge plates. The travel bar blocks pivoting motion of the hinge plates when the ring members are closed. An elongate link connects a pivotable actuating lever to the travel bar such that pivoting motion of the actuating lever produces translational movement of the travel bar. The elongate link is oriented so it extends longitudinally relative to the housing.

Abstract: A ring binder mechanism that retains loose-leaf pages. The mechanism includes a housing and hinge plates supported by the housing for pivoting about a pivot axis relative to the housing. The mechanism further includes rings that hold the loose-leaf pages. Each ring includes two ring members. A first ring member is mounted on a first hinge plate and can move therewith relative to a second ring member. In a closed position, the two ring members form a substantially continuous, closed loop for allowing loose-leaf pages retained by the rings to be moved along the rings from one ring member to the other. In an open position, the two ring members form a discontinuous, open loop for adding or removing loose-leaf pages from the rings. Additionally the mechanism comprises an actuator that is pivotally mounted on the housing and can move relative to the housing for controlling the pivoting motion of the hinge plates and closing the ring members.

Abstract: A collapsible ring binder includes a plurality of selectively openable and closable rings that releasably retain hole-punched documents within the binder. The rings may be collapsed and/or detached from the binder to flatten the binder for transportation and/or storage. The rings are easily moved from their collapsed and/or detached configuration to their upright and usable configuration so that an end user can easily ready the collapsed binder for use.

Abstract: A ring binder mechanism that retains loose-leaf pages and has ring members that gently close and readily lock together. The mechanism comprises a housing that supports two hinge plates for loose pivoting motion, moving the ring members between an open position and a closed position. A lever causes the pivoting motion of the hinge plates such that the lever is pivotable between a first position in which the ring members are closed and a second position. A spring is engageable with the lever for urging the lever to move the control structure toward the first position.

Abstract: A wrap-around notebook or binder includes a ring assembly with a shield and a pair of frames forming a bistable construction, and a hinge plate pivotally coupled to the shield with the outer surface of the hinge plate aligned with the outer extent of the shield/frame assembly when the hinge plate is parallel to the plane of the shield. The exposed frame member may be convex, recessed to receive rivet heads, and may be plated. The hinge plate(s) may have curls which interfit with alternate curls from the shield to provide a hinge. The ring assembly may be mounted in the notebook or binder so that the shield side of the ring assembly faces the front cover of the binder. The pivot line between the shield and the hinge plate may be spaced from the shield by a clearance distance. The notebook or binder lies flat on an underlying surface with either the front cover of the rear cover folded under the assembly.

Abstract: A folder (1) is provided which may be used to aid in document management and in the giving of formal presentations. The folder (1) is provided with an integral stand mechanism (25) for supporting the folder in an upright position, with the stand mechanism being moveable between a retracted position and a deployed position. The folder may also include other novel features, including a timepiece (23) and detachable wallets (11, 19) or papers that permit a user to configure the presentation folder in their preferred arrangement.

Abstract: A photo/photo cartridge delivery/storage packet is particularly suited for the products of Advanced Photo Systems (APS) processing. Such packet has first and second sheet-like cover members disposed in spaced, substantially parallel planes. Each member has a spine-adjacent edge and a sheet-like spine interconnecting the cover members along such edges. A plurality of sheet-like photos is between the cover members and is removably/replaceably secured to the spine by adhesive. There is a structural element against either the second cover member or an additional insert card for securing the photo cartridge associated with the photos. The packet may also have a fold-over flap which aids in securing the photographs in the packet.

Abstract: A variable volume file for documents, includes a folder, constituted by two flat parts and by a back, and a box, corresponding in shape and volume to the folder, having two larger bases and by three lateral surface faces. The folder and the box are made individually in two separate parts, which can be partly overlapped on one another in the width direction of the back. Each folder part includes a flat and a back wing; each box part includes one of the bases and lateral surface wings. Provided in the back wings of the folder and in the lateral surface wings of the box are structures for sliding engagement which interact with one another for the relative movement of one part in relation to the other and structures for mutual locking of the respective parts in prefixed positions.

Abstract: The improved notebook and notebook cover assembly of the present invention includes a notebook, preferably of a loose-leaf type, and a sub-assembly which includes front and rear notebook covers, an edge binder interconnecting the two covers and foldable back upon itself, and a notebook connector releasably interconnecting the notebook only to the covers. Due to the edge binder the covers are movable between a first position wherein the front cover overlies and protects the notebook and a second position wherein the front cover is behind and flat against the rear cover, thus fully exposing the notebook and supporting it in a flat position for easy viewing and writing therein. The edge binder can have a longitudinal fold line along the length of the center line of the central portion thereof, or can be divided along that center line into two halves joined together by a hinge, such as a piano hinge or a flexible strip of plastic, cloth, paper or rubber.

Abstract: A binder assembly comprising a binder cover and a binder body is detachably coupled to a file. The binder cover has a protrusion and the binder body has an end protrusion being formed at the outer sides of one end of the binder cover and body. The binder assembly can cover the upper and lower ends of a guide card mounted on a shelfback of the file to keep the guide card at the suitable position thereon.

Abstract: A organizer for a large number of documents comprises a rigid backing member, a front cover and a back cover, both pivotally mounted to the backing member. The backing member is sufficiently wide to receive a plurality of removable parallel conventional ring binder assemblies and accordingly includes a plurality of mechanisms to receive the binder assemblies. The ring binder assemblies comprise a rigid spine, a plurality of rings and a mechanism to open and close the rings to receive perforated pages thereon. The front and back covers preferably provide handle holes set back from the edges a distance such that the end pages overlie the user's fingers when the organizer is picked up. In this fashion, the leading edges of the end pages do not cut the user's fingers. In addition, a retractable stand is provided for supporting the ring binders at an inclined readable angle.

Abstract: A binder ring has folio stops affixed to the end of at least one binder ring section. When the binder ring is in the open position the folio stop impedes a folio sheet from inadvertently sliding off the ring section. The folio stop slips on when the binder ring is opened and slips off when the binder ring is closed to be unobtrusive.

Abstract: A vertical support shaft projects down from the underside of a telephone booth shelf and supports the inner end of an arm swivelable horizontally about the shaft. The outer end of the arm is hingedly coupled to a telephone directory binder so that the binder is pivotable about a horizontal axis at such end and transverse to the arm's centerline. The binder's centerline is parallel to a reference line passing through such axes at an acute angle b. When the arm is on "in" position the binder is stored beneath the shelf in primary alignment with its width. When the arm is pulled out and the binder is pivoted out, up and over, the binder goes through a motion equivalent to an angular displacement of 2b to come to rest face-up with an alignment parallel to its former widthwise alignment.

Abstract: A portable desk and briefcase includes a bottom member 20 foldably connected to a front member 16 and a back member 18. The opposite edge of member 18 foldably connects top member 38, which in turn is foldably connected to front flap member 42. Side members 26 and 28 are foldably connected to back member 18 along lines 30 and 32, respectively, which are spaced inwardly from the edges of member 18. Upon folding to form a briefcase, the folded side members, being inwardly spaced, support the other members in their folded positions. The side members are held in the folded position by securing means 78, 80. The top and bottom members each carry binders, and the front member carries, a plurality of pockets.

Abstract: A list finder, for example, a telephone index, is provided in which all of the main parts can be integrally moulded of plastic mostly by simple moulds which do not require undercut moulding; the only essential non-plastic parts being a hinge pin pivotally connecting a base and a cover, and a spring. The base has two spaced apart pedestals each of which has laterally spaced upwardly facing and downwardly facing hinge pin seats, with a clear space being provided below the downwardly facing hinge pin seat so that this can be moulded by a unitary mould member which also moulds the underside of the base. The cover includes a planar portion and two downwards projections having a central web and a cylindrically curved flange, the flanges being engageable in T-shaped slots in the sheets of the index. The web member has an upwardly facing hinge pin seat, and an aperture is provided above this seat and the flanges so that these can be moulded by a unitary mould member which also forms the top of the cover.

Abstract: A folder and fastener for retaining perforated sheets are provided with a fastener travel limiter secured on the inner surface of the upper flap of the folder. The fastener comprises a flexible tubular member attached to the inner surface of the lower flap of the folder and providing two ends extending through the sheet perforations, and a stiff closure element having ends releasably engaging the flexible member ends. The travel limiter engages the closure element and defines a travel space for it, permitting free travel of the closure element parallel with the upper flap inner surface during opening and closing of the folder.

Abstract: A looseleaf binder-display stand comprising a plurality of hingedly connected panels with multiple fastener means attached thereto; said binder, when closed, may be carried in the manner of a satchel by a handle, said closed binder fashioned to include a panel component to separate an article folder or purse from a plurality of binder inserts attached therein; said looseleaf binder, when opened, may function as a notebook, study carrel, or bookstand; said binder reversely foldable and erectable into a display stand for insert sheets propped thereon.
