The rod carrier can be held in place along the rod with a locking mechanism on the upper and lower ends of the rod carrier. A rotator can surround the rod carrier, and the rotator can include a wheel and a main thrust bearing, the wheel being in threaded connection with the threads of the rod carrier and supported by the main thrust bearing. The rotation of the wheel relative to the rod carrier can result in vertical movement of the rod and the vertical movement of the rod can be accomplished without disengaging the means for fixing the rod carrier to the rod.

A pair of elongated rigid rods are each secured at one end to separate ones of the bicycle brake lever arms. Both of the elongated rods have externally threaded ends which are threadably engaged in separate ones of the tapped openings of the sockets.

    Abstract: A support device for supporting a longitudinal member, such as a threaded rod, in a desired position with respect to the support device includes a housing adapted to receive the threaded rod, transversely within a housing aperture, and a slide axle, slideably received axially within the housing. The slide axle receives the threaded rod and is slidable within the housing to (1) a first position frictionally engaging the rod and (2) a second position disengaged from the rod so that the rod can be relatively freely moved with respect to the slide axle. The rod supporting device includes a tightening member or lock nut to secure the slide axle in a locked position whereby the rod is tightly held against a housing bearing wall defining a portion of the housing aperture. The housing bearing wall is relatively smooth so that the threaded rod is tightly held in locked position by the lock nut, while minimizing axial movement of the rod with respect to the housing.

    Abstract: The vertical slide in the latch linkage of an exit device is coupled for vertical movement together with a channel inside the door stile. The channel holds a pair of blocks having inclined surfaces held in touching relation and relatively slideable. The vertical latch-operating rod is attached to the first of the blocks and the other block is secured to the channel by a horizontally disposed threaded adjusting element. The side walls of the channel restrict the first of the blocks from lateral but not vertical movement. The other block is restricted from lateral movement only by the threaded element, and turning the threaded element moves that block from side to side in the channel to raise or lower the first block as the inclined surfaces slide. This changes the effective length of the rod. The turning of the threaded element may be done from the outside of the door through an access hole.

The nut component comprises a shell, a nut member disposed within the shell for limited axial and radial movement therein and fixed against rotation, and biasing means for urging against the axial movement of the nut member. The radial and axial movement of the nut member facilitates the alignment and engagement of the screw member with the nut member to eliminate binding when the closure members are assembled.
