  • Patent number: 10288096
Abstract: A joint assembly includes a structural body having a key which projects cantilevered from an abutment surface. The key includes a stem with a first stem portion having a reduced transverse encumbrance, and a second stem portion from which fins project and define locking surfaces. A seat body includes an abutment counter-surface facing the abutment surface. A seat is formed by opening from the abutment counter-surface, which delimits a key entry slot. A first seat portion proximate the entry slot allows insertion of the key if the fins are aligned with the entry slot. A second seat portion internal and opposite the entry slot widens to allow free rotation of the key. The seat body forms locking counter-surfaces having an inclined plane portion moving away from the entry slot so that key rotation brings the abutment surface in force-contact against the abutment counter-surface, creating a firm frictional fit.

Abstract: A construction system suitable for erecting a modular structure such as a furniture item or the like. A first part is connectable with a second part by a releasable cross connection. A third elongate part has a cavity extending substantially over its full length for receiving the cross connection at a position therealong. The third part may be a leg member for the furniture item and the first and second parts may be rail members. Alternatively, the first part may be a coupling element for connecting modular structures together or a hinge element for pivotably attaching a door panel, the second part being a securing element for securing the coupling or hinge element to a leg member. A modular structure and a method of erecting a modular structure are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5421356
Abstract: An expandable framework structure can be folded for storage and expanded for use, especially as a canopy when a covering is placed on top of the framework. The framework includes a plurality of upright supports and a plurality of edge scissor assemblies that interconnect adjacent ones of the upright supports. Mounts are disposed on the upright supports to fasten outer, rectangular end portions of the edge scissor assemblies. The mounts have sockets which have facing, parallel sidewall portions to receive the rectangular end portions in close-fitted engagement along planar contact surfaces to resist lateral and torsional deflections of the edge scissor assemblies. A non-compressive fastening pin pivotally secures the outer end of each edge scissor assemblies in its respective socket. The mounts on each upright support are relatively movable to allow expansion and contraction of the framework; one mount is preferably a stationary mount and the other a slide mount.

Abstract: A wheelchair frame is defined by a pair of side frame assemblies that are rigidly connected to each other by a seat pan. Each side frame assembly includes a seat mounting member on which the seat pan is mounted, a bottom member connected to the seat mounting member, and a footrest member pivotally connected to the seat mounting member and rigidly connected to the bottom member. A drive wheel mounting assembly can include a generally U-shaped mounting block for being mounted on a bottom member of each side frame assembly, and a drive axle receiving arrangement mounted on each mounting block for receiving a drive wheel axle. The bottom member can be provided with a flat surface upon which the drive axle receiving arrangement is placed.

Abstract: A wheelchair includes a chassis having a pair of side frame assemblies that are rigidly connected to each other by a seat pan. Mounted on each side frame assembly is an interchangeable axle receiving platform for orienting drive wheels at a desired camber angle. One end of a seat member is pivotally attached to a foot member for adjustment of the seating angle. By moving an opposite end of the seat member along a curved portion of a bottom member of each side frame assembly, the seat angle is changed. A one piece caster assembly is disposed forward of the drivewheels on the chassis. Through the one-piece caster assembly, each caster can be simultaneously adjusted to a particular location along the frame.
