Patent number: 6568703Abstract: A novel apparatus and method for attaching a rounded member, such as an inflator assembly for an automobile air bag, to another member or surface, particularly a flat surface, is disclosed. A spacer, which may take the form of a split ring, is positioned around an attachment surface of the rounded member. Then, while the spacer is supported against further motion along the inflator, a flange having a shank with a tapered inside diameter may be passed around the inflator and spacer. As the inside diameter of the flange narrows to contact the spacer, the flange exerts inward pressure tending to frictionally engage the inflator with the spacer, and the spacer with the flange. Thus, an interference fit having a high retention strength may be comparatively easily and rapidly formed. The spacer may be hardened so as to indent the inflator and/or the flange to enhance the retention strength of the assembly.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2001Date of Patent: May 27, 2003Assignee: Autoliv ASP, Inc.Inventors: William O. Patent number: 6357958Abstract: A keyless mounting device has inner and outer tubular sleeves telescopically engaged. The confronting surfaces of the inner and outer sleeves are tapered so that relative axial displacement of the sleeve in one direction expands the outer surface of the outer sleeve and contracts the inner surface of the inner sleeve. Relative axial displacement in the other direction allows the outer surface to contract and the inner surface to expand. The inner and outer sleeves are threaded at one end and the free end of each sleeve adjacent the threads provides an annular abutment surface. An adjustor is provided to effect the relative axial displacement of the sleeves. The adjustor has one set of threads to engage the threads of the inner and an abutment surface to engage the abutment surface of the outer when the threads are tightened and second threads adapted to engage the threads of the outer and second abutment surface adapted to engage the abutment surface of the inner when loosening the sleeves.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1999Date of Patent: March 19, 2002Assignee: Fenner, Inc.Inventors: Randall R. Patent number: 5970679Abstract: The structure comprises cold-formed sections built-up from elementary sections joined stably together by means of connecting braces inside the built-up section; said joined elementary sections define longitudinal slots with their longitudinal lips which are bent inwards and each inclined with respect to that opposite so as to converge towards the interior; fastening devices comprising a channel die and one or more pressure pieces are fitted along the slots in order to clamp with screw means the lips that define said slots and deform them with a locking action.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1997Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Inventor: Gregorio Amore

Patent number: 5803644Abstract: A reinforced fastening point for a plastics-material casing. In order to provide a reinforcement for a fastening point which is simple to assemble and which is held automatically in the opening in the casing without further fasteners, a cylindrical opening is provided at the fastening point on the casing. The reinforcement part corresponding thereto is constructed as a frustum in that region which in the assembled state comes to rest in the region of the cylindrical opening. The smaller external diameter of this frustum is smaller than or equal to the internal diameter of the cylindrical opening. The larger external diameter of the frustum, on the other hand, has an excess dimension with respect to the internal diameter of the cylindrical opening. In this case, the excess dimension is selected to be such that it can be neutralized by resilient deformation of the reinforcement part.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1997Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Assignee: Dr. Ing. h.c.F. Patent number: 5429446Abstract: An apparatus for selectively and hydraulically locking a hollow cylinder body, such as a lathe cylinder body, onto, and unlocking the cylinder body from, a cylindrical shaft includes a tubular sleeve defining an axially extending passage therein, the sleeve including a centrally located exterior annular channel. The hollow body includes an axially extending cylindrical passage and a single female threaded bore formed to extend radially through the hollow cylinder body to bisect the axial passage thereof. The sleeve is inserted and fixed within the axially extending passage of the body so that the annular channel faces and is closed off by the walls of the axially extending passage to thereby form an annular cavity which is in fluidic communication with the female threaded bore.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1993Date of Patent: July 4, 1995Assignee: L. Patent number: 5222580Abstract: A hydraulic cylinder for a physical exercise equipment includes a cylinder body, a piston rod which extends outward from the cylinder body and which has an annular groove that is formed circumferentially in an outer end portion of the piston rod, and a coupling mechanism which includes a flexible end sleeve and a cylindrical metal retaining element. The end sleeve has a pivot joint tubular portion and a tubular protrusion which projects radially from the pivot joint tubular portion. The tubular protrusion is formed with a receiving recess which receives the outer end portion of the piston rod therein. The pivot joint tubular portion has a pivot bore formed therethrough so that a pivot pin can extend therethrough.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1992Date of Patent: June 29, 1993Assignee: Lee Wang Industry Ltd.Inventor: John Wang

Patent number: 5000349Abstract: A tap for aseptic packages of the type which contain solutions and, in particular, solutions for medical applications. The type has a body, a packaging penetrating tip extending from the body, a liquid passageway extending from the tip and through the body for dispensing liquid from the package and a fluid passageway extending from the tip and through the body for admitting make-up air to the package interior. A cylindrical member of resilient material is positioned between the tap body and its penetrating tip and is insertable through the package wall in trailing relation to the tip. The resilient member is selectively compressed along its cylindrical axis to expand within the package and engage the wall to seal the orifice formed by the tip on penetration of the package wall and to secure the tap to the package.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1990Date of Patent: March 19, 1991Inventors: Riku H. Patent number: 4783188Abstract: A rail connector for use in connecting pipe rails to pipe posts includes a circular tubular member with a reduced sleeve which fits inside a pipe rail and substantially conforms to the inner surface of the pipe rail to provide a tight fit between the connector and pipe rail. The connector includes a mechanism for adjusting the diameter of the sleeve to provide a tight fit between the sleeve and the rail. This mechanism includes a wedge member having substantially rounded sides such that minor deviations in the machining of the sleeve can be accommodated. Also disclosed is a mechanism for locking the pipe rail on the connector so that the pipe cannot be removed.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1987Date of Patent: November 8, 1988Inventor: Thomas Souza, Jr.

Patent number: 4607422Abstract: A bonnet is locked to the body of a valve into which the bonnet screws by a sheet metal bonnet lock which includes a portion that will mate with facets on the bonnet or with the sides of the valve body. Another portion of the bonnet lock is then deformed to mate with the other of the bonnet facets or valve body sides. The portion of the bonnet lock that mates with the facets on the bonnet circumscribes the bonnet such that one portion of the bonnet lock is fixed to the bonnet and the other portion is fixed to the valve body following deformation of the bonnet lock to prevent the bonnet from turning relative to the valve body.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1984Date of Patent: August 26, 1986Inventor: John P.
