Abstract: An attachment for mounting on a rod or shaft when an end of the rod is not free, in the form of a split collar, pulley or gear, is in two parts having half-cylinder inner portions. The parts may be mounted on diametrally opposed sides of a rod or shaft when axially displaced from one another. Each part has a pair of interlocking elements. Each of the pair of interlocking elements of the first part interdigitates and thereby interlocks with one of the interlocking elements of the other part when the two parts are moved together axially to form a completely encircling attachment on the rod which resists radial dismemberment. A threaded passage extends radially through at least one of the parts to receive a long threaded fastener such as a thumbscrew to fixedly engage the rod. The attachment may be readily and rapidly mounted, locked and removed by an unskilled user without the use of any tools.

  • Patent number: 5394968
Abstract: A clutch to be applied between a transmission shaft and a wheel of an electric cart, comprising a bushing for fixing to the shaft and a hub rotatably covered on the bushing, wherein the hub is adapted to have the wheel securely mounted thereto. A collar is mounted on the outer ends of the bushing and the hub to engage the bushing with the hub. The hub and the bushing, which are concentric annuluses, have matching slots on their outer ends, respectively, and the collar is provided with matching collar protrusions for engagement therewith. A stud is cased within the collar and secured to the outer end of the transmission shaft via a screw, which also slidably secures the collar to the shaft via a spring which sits on the shoulder in the inner wall of the collar. The hub can be easily disengaged from the bushing by simply pulling the collar and compressing the spring and rotating the collar so that the protrusions are no longer aligned with the slots and sit on the outer face of the hub and the bushing.

  • Patent number: 5272889
Abstract: The present invention involves an air conditioner including an air handling housing having a sidewall and defining first and second compartments. First and second tangential blowers are disposed in the first and second compartments, respectively. Each of the tangential blowers defines an axis with a coaxially disposed shaft end mounted in the sidewall. A motor drives the first and second tangential blowers. A belt and two pulleys rotatably connect the first and second tangential blowers. The belt engages the pulleys, and each pulley is mounted on a respective one of the shaft ends by a tolerance ring. A bearing assembly for rotatably supporting the shaft ends includes a support plate spaced from the sidewall. The bearing assembly further includes an outer race and an inner race. The outer race is connected to the support plate and the inner race is connected to the shaft end.
