  • Patent number: 5531534
Abstract: A protective cover 12 for a threaded stud 26 of a ball joint 10 includes retaining members 90 for engaging the stud 26 of the ball joint 10. The retaining members 90 apply a retaining force to the stud 26 to prevent removal of the cover 12 from the ball joint 10. A wall 72 of the cover 12 includes a weakened portion 96. The weakened portion 96 of the wall 72 breaks in response to shear forces applied to the cover 12 which lessens the force applied by the retaining members 90 to the stud 26. Therefore, the cover 12 can be easily removed from the ball joint 10.

Abstract: The invention relates to a frame, more particularly for a shower partition, the said frame comprising at least two shaped or profiled rails preferably connected together at a right angle. In the case of a frame of this kind, problems arise in the corner area in that the surfaces of the profiled rail, shaping element, covering profile, or the like in that area must be carried over into each other. Abstract: Freezing of ice on quick connect couplings during transfer of a cryogenic liquid, such as liquid oxygen, from one container to another is prevented by providing a cup-like shield means encircling the body of the coupling. Cold, dry purge gas from the container being filled is introduced into the shield base at a point remote from its open end while the cryogenic liquid is passing through the coupling.

  • Patent number: 4415825
Abstract: A clamping mechanism for the end turns of a dynamoelectric machine is disclosed which permits periodic retightening and provides a means for compensating for misalignment of the clamping components. Annular spacers are provided, each of which have two nonparallel planar surfaces. When two of these spacers are combined in a coplanar association, they can be rotationally positioned relative to each other to provide spatial compensation between a nut and a clamping surface which is nonperpendicular to the threaded bar with which the nut is in threaded communication. The nut and spacers are fixed to the threaded bar with a covering of thermal setting tape to prevent relative movement and possible unthreading.

  • Patent number: 4411546
Abstract: An oil well sucker rod shear tool is described comprising a generally cylindrical elongated member having externally threaded portions at the opposite ends thereof. The elongated member has a reduced diameter portion formed therein between the ends thereof which serves as a shear portion designed to shear upon a predetermined amount of stress being subjected thereto. A cylindrical sleeve is sealably mounted on the elongated member around the shear portion not only to protect the shear portion from the corrosive effects of the fluid being pumped but to also prevent deflection of the shear portion. A cylindrical nut is threadably mounted on the elongated member to maintain the sleeve thereon.

  • Patent number: 4408924
Abstract: A split collar for surrounding an article comprises two half sections, each having an internal surface configured to engage the article. A pair of grooves surrounds the collar, and a cut-out is provided to form a pair of attachment projections. An elastic member, such as a rubber band or O-ring, is folded in half and one end is placed around one of the projections. The two strands of the folded elastic member are then placed in the grooves and drawn around the two half sections. The other end of the elastic member is then stretched over the other projection, whereby the two half sections are held together. The collar is suited for many uses, such as covering the junction between the telescoping tubes of a motorcycle fork assembly.

  • Patent number: 4407600
Abstract: A boot cover for turnbuckles and the like has an upper cap portion that fits around a stay, and fits snugly over an elongated central portion that covers the entire turnbuckle. Both the upper cap portion and the elongated central portion are made of resilient material and are slotted, or openable, and may be stretched apart to permit both portions to be fitted around the stay and turnbuckle assembly to cover the assembly to reduce abrasion of the sails or any cordage that must pass by the turnbuckle area. The lower portion of the turnbuckle and chain plate may also be covered by a lower cap portion that also fits snugly over the elongated central portion, and is also slotted to fit over the lower portion of the turnbuckle and chain plate without removing them or disconnecting them.

  • Patent number: 4237986
Abstract: A flexible guard for preventing rocks and other debris from becoming trapped in the hollow area between the lift cylinder mounting lugs and then being crushed by one of the angle cylinders when the bulldozer blade is angled. In a first embodiment, the flexible rock and debris guard is fitted around the forward end of the lift cylinder mounting lugs on the bulldozer C-frame. It deflects away from the lift cylinder lugs the debris pushed against it by the retracting angle cylinder when the blade is angled. The rock guard has the additional advantage that the normal lubrication of the lift cylinder rod eye can be accomplished without its removal. A second embodiment of the rock guard includes a solid block of rubber or plastic that fits in the hollow space between the upstanding lift cylinder mounting lugs, and it has deflecting surfaces and flexible end portions permitting lubrication of the lift cylinder rod eye thereby providing the same general features as the first embodiment.
