Between Rod Shoulder And Terminal Nut Patents (Class 403/259)
  • Patent number: 4032256
Abstract: A pump for handling liquids laden with abrasive particles having impellers arranged in a counter-opposed manner on the pump shaft to rotate jointly with the latter. At the points of impeller mounting, the shaft has tapered surfaces whose apices face each other and the mating surfaces of the impellers are also tapered. At least one of the tapered surfaces of the shaft is formed by a bushing disposed with provision for moving axially along said shaft for pressing the impellers against the corresponding tapered surfaces of the shaft. This mode of mounting the impellers extends considerably the service life of the pump.

  • Patent number: 4018537
Abstract: An operating handle comprising a sheet metal stamping or the like which includes means for providing a clamping force against an operating member when the handle is mounted thereon. The handle structure is comprised of separate handle and biasing members which each include a mounting opening through which the operating member is received. The handle and biasing members are shaped and dimensioned such that as a conventional handle nut is threadedly advanced on the operating member to force these members toward each other, the mounting openings in the members are biased in opposite directions from each other to place a clamping force against opposite sides of the operating member. The biasing member may also conveniently include stops or tabs adapted to cooperate with stops on a valve body or the like to precisely define the extreme positions to which the handle and operating member may be rotated.

  • Patent number: 4013154
Abstract: A mounting nut for a viscous fluid coupling. The nut is axially movable upon the input shaft of the coupling into engagement with a contact surface on the flange of the input shaft. Threads are provided on the nut for engagement with threads on a flange secured to the mounting shaft. The flange on the input shaft and the flange on the mounting shaft each have a flat surface perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the coupling. When the nut is threaded onto the flange on the mounting shaft the two flat surfaces are drawn together and forced into tight mating engagement. A key may be provided between the two flanges to ensure 1:1 rotation between the coupling and the mounting shaft.

  • Patent number: 3973789
Abstract: An effective, easily installed coupling structure for use in securing a pipe in an opening in a member from one side of the member can be constructed so as to utilize an expandable sleeve. Such a sleeve is initially of a cylindrical configuration and is located around a threaded end of the pipe adjacent to a tapered shoulder on the pipe. The pipe is inserted through such an opening so that the sleeve extends through the opening and so that a flange on the sleeve abuts against the member. A nut is then located around the threaded end and relative rotation is caused between the nut and the pipe through the use of a holding structure on the pipe and the nut. Such action holds the sleeve as the pipe is drawn toward the member. Engagement between the sleeve and the shoulder then expands the sleeve so that the pipe is held as the result of the flange engaging one side of the member and the sleeve engaging the other side of the member.

  • Patent number: 3957394
Abstract: A shaft coupled at one end to motive means is externally threaded in spaced proximate relation with the opposite free end thereof. A plurality of keyways supporting a plurality of keys are provided at the free end of the shaft. A propeller mount supporting a marine propeller for rotation therewith is coaxially positioned over the shaft and has an internally threaded axial bore threadedly coupled to the threading of the shaft. A component is coaxially positioned over part of the propeller mount. An annular restraining member is coaxially positioned over the shaft and within an axial bore of the component. A plurality of bores are formed through the restraining member in alignment with bores of the propeller mount. The restraining member is coupled to the propeller mount via a plurality of screws in the bores thereof with a predetermined gap between the restraining member and the propeller mount thereby preventing axial movement of the propeller mount.
