Patent number: 4085916Abstract: A releasable locking device comprising a first and a second member movable into and out of engagement with each other, and one or more latch elements arranged within an inner space defined by said members when engaged. The latch elements are freely movable in that space which includes an annular channel, under the influence of gravity between a first position in which they do not interfere with movement of said members into and out of engagement with each other, and a second position in which the latch element or elements block movement of said members out of engagement with each other. The said members preferably comprise a socket member having a recess and a tubular stud member receivable therein. Due to the fact that the latch elements are movable under the influence of gravity the position or orientation of the locking device determines whether the latch elements are in their locking or releasing position.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1975Date of Patent: April 25, 1978Inventor: Jorgen Gammelgaard Pedersen

Patent number: 4063836Abstract: A hollow tube constitutes a structural member having an opening in a wall thereof which surrounds a short hollow sleeve closely fitting within the tubular member, the sleeve having diametrically opposed openings one of which is of the size and shape of the opening in the tube wall. The margin of one of the openings in the sleeve is shouldered inwardly. The sleeve is so positioned within the tube that the openings are aligned, the shouldered opening of the sleeve being diametrically opposed to the aligned openings in the tube and sleeve. A hollow tubular bracing cross-member is provided of such dimension as to pass through, with minimum clearance, the aligned openings in the tube and sleeve, the free end of the cross member being received within the diametrically-located opening in the sleeve and resting upon the shoulder thereof. Means are provided to lock the bracing cross member removably within and to the tube and sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1977Date of Patent: December 20, 1977Assignee: Finkel Outdoor Products, Inc.Inventor: Vincent Militano

Patent number: 4047703Abstract: A rattle-free rail construction includes a plurality of vertical line posts, each having an H cross-sectional configuration defining vertical channels in the post. Each channel includes a pair of opposed, vertically extending arcuate grooves which are of the correct diameter to properly accept self-tapping screws. Another pair of opposed, vertically extending retention grooves are disposed in each channel, parallel and adjacent to the arcuate grooves. Horizontal bars of the railing construction are secured with the ends thereof in opposed channels of adjacent line posts, the bars being spaced apart in each channel by post inserts which snappingly engage the retention grooves in the channel. Double-sided foam tape is applied to the top and bottom ends of the horizontal bars, and the entire assembly is secured in a channel by joining a top subrail onto top of post by means of screws received into the top openings of the arcuate grooves.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1976Date of Patent: September 13, 1977Assignee: NEF SystemsInventor: Robert H.
