The wedge and spool are threadedly coupled together to drive the wedge into and out of an opening in the assembly without hammering or prying. The direct coupling of the wedge and spool eliminates the need for bolts, washers, nuts and other hardware so as to minimize the number of parts. As a result, the lock is inexpensive to make, easy to use, and unlikely to become inoperative because of lost or broken parts or due to fines or other difficulties encountered in harsh digging environments. Further, the wedge can be driven into the assembly to provide the degree of tightness necessary for the intended operation and/or to re-tighten the assembly after incurring wear during use. A latch assembly is preferably provided to securely hold the wedge in place and avoid an undesired loss of parts during use.

Abstract: A vapor vent valve has an annular locking ring received thereover, with surfaces thereon engaging the valve for limited axial movement therebetween and preventing relative rotation therebetween. A fuel tank has an access opening with a slit formed therein. The valve is inserted in the access opening and the end of the locking ring engaged in the slit, rotation of the valve causes the locking ring to feed completely through the slit to the interior of the tank and engages the inner surface thereof while continuing to engage the valve to retain and seal the valve in the access opening. The valve, locking ring and a seal ring may be pre-assembled to form a subassembly capable of being installed and locked on the fuel tank as a unit without the need for tools or fasteners.

  • Patent number: 6053655
Abstract: A fastener comprises a nut surrounding a collar that in turn surrounds a t, the nut and collar holding a bracket element against a mounting surface. The collar fits closely but slidably within the nut. Of the nut or collar, one has a boss that rides upon a cam surface of the other, so that a camming relation exists between the nut and collar. Turning the nut relative to the collar will thus squeeze the collar into an interference fit with the post so that the fastener attains a locking configuration. A groove adjacent the cam surface accepts the projection and retains it such that the fastener maintains its locking condition. A predetermined torque is needed to rotate the projection to the groove, whereby the fastener is a torque controlled fastener.

  • Patent number: 5842810
Abstract: An adaptor for quickly connecting and releasing a T-shaped bar which holds a mop head and a mop handle to form a complete mop for use. The T-shaped bar has a horizontal base portion and a vertical threaded portion. The horizontal base portion is adapted to the mop head, while the vertical threaded portion is adapted to the adaptor. A mop handle or stick is then adapted to the rear of the adaptor. The adaptor has a spring biased pawl which is pivotally mounted thereon, such that when the tip of the pawl is engaged with the vertical threaded portion of the T-shaped bar by the spring, it locks the movement of the adaptor. However, by simply rotating the adaptor, the adaptor will be further threaded on the vertical threaded portion of the T-shaped bar to precisely adjust the tightness of the adaptor to the T-shaped bar. When the pawl is pressed against the spring, an individual can quickly release the adaptor from the vertical portion of the T-shaped bar, which in turn releases the mop head.
