  • Patent number: 4752163
Abstract: A thread cutting diestock assembly is disclosed comprising a ratchet housing having a bore adapted to selectively and detachably receive a large thread cutting die head or an adaptor ring, each of which is provided with ratchet teeth engaged by a pawl on the ratchet housing so as to be rotatably therewith. The adaptor ring has a polygonal bore adapted to detachably receive a small thread cutting die head which interengages with the polygonal bore to preclude relative rotation between the die head and adaptor ring. A circumferentially extending recess in the bore in the ratchet housing carriers a non-circular split retaining spring ring which interengages with the large die head or adaptor ring to detachably secure the latter in the ratchet housing bore, and a circumferentially extending groove in the adaptor ring bore carries a polygonal split retaining spring ring which interengages with the smaller die head to detachably secure the latter in the adaptor ring bore.

  • Patent number: 4741225
Abstract: In an engine housing and transmission housing adapted to be moved axially together, an easily actuatable and releasable attachment means for joining the housings coaxially together so as to prevent relative rotation and axial separation. Retention grooves cut through interfitting non-rotation splines on the housings provide oppositely facing limit surfaces, with one retention groove also providing a pocket for an expandable and contractable retention ring. In a stored position, the ring is located outside of the root of the splines, so that the housings may be pushed together without resistance, which also serves to align the retention grooves. The ring is then contracted by a single turnable fastener, moving it out of the pocket and between the oppositely facing limit surfaces to prevent axial separation of the housings.

Abstract: This invention teaches a means to retain a cutter cone onto a journal bearing of an earth boring rotary cone rock bit. Complementary and registering annular grooves are formed in the bearing surfaces of the journal and the cone. A tangential entry groove transitions from an end of the journal to the annular groove in the journal. Simultaneous 360.degree. rotation and axial movement of the cone over the journal, in combination with a ring distortion ramp block in the cone, threads an end of a split cone retention ring through the entry groove in the journal into the registering annular grooves, thereby retaining the cone on the journal.

Abstract: A transmitter cylinder is used in a hydraulic system and particularly the ake system of an automotive vehicle. To prevent undesired access into the transmitter cylinder, a lock part is installed at the pedal facing end of the cylinder. The lock part is an annulus. The pedal connected piston extends through the lock part and into the transmitter cylinder. The annular lock part is shaped so that its inner bore will guide and center the piston projecting into the cylinder. A locking element for holding the lock part in the cylinder bore is defined. It is either a radial projection from the lock part or it is a retaining ring held in a groove on the exterior of the lock part. In either case, the locking element projects into a groove defined in the interior of the cylinder bore, which retains the lock part in the cylinder bore against undesired extraction. The lock part may be a hollow annulus or a solid body. The lock part is appropriately configured to permit its extraction with appropriate tools.

Abstract: An excavating tooth has a blade of substantially constant thickness with a transverse shoulder at its inner end and a longitudinal gusset. The tooth terminates in a reduced diameter spindle and a button with a shoulder on its forward face. The adapter has a recess to receive the tooth, the forward end of the adapter receiving the thrust of the tooth because the transverse shoulder bears thereagainst. A top to bottom opening in the adapter intersects the recess at the spindle. A pair of grooves are formed on the outside edges of the opening with projections extending inward from the outer walls of the grooves. A retainer is formed of round cross-section wire and slides in the grooves between locked and unlocked positions, the diameter of the wire being less than the width of the grooves. The retainer is symmetrical about its longitudinal center line, having a slightly upward bowed top connector and legs depending from either end of the connector.

Abstract: A pipe hanger arranged to be positioned about a pipe to be suspended, moved to closed position and engaged upon a threaded support rod so as to carry the pipe is disclosed. The hanger takes the form of an elongated band preferably metal, the ends of which are brought into proximity to one another by bending the band into a general oval shape, the ends of the band are formed in configurations registering with the thread pattern of the support rod when engaged thereagainst and a ferrule is moved downwardly over the ends of the band so as to move the same into forceful engagement with the threaded supporting rod. Locking devices on the ferrule engage at least one of the ends of the band and/or the support rod so as to hold the ferrule in a position in which the ends of the band remain in tight non-slipping engagement with the threaded support rod.

Abstract: The invention pertains to vehicle brake actuators of the expansible motor type wherein the actuator includes a cylinder having a piston and piston rod assembly reciprocal therein, a helical spring biases the piston in a braking direction, and a pressurized medium, such as hydraulic fluid, forces the piston in a spring compressing direction. The unique features include a piston drawn from sheet metal wherein the piston rod is pressed thereinto, and the piston seals are retained in position by a wire ring having an interference fit with the piston. Additionally, novelty resides in the use of a retainer formed of wire or of stamped construction having protuberances defined thereon for retaining the cylinder end cap upon the cylinder in a manner to permit ease and safety of assembly, and uniform force distribution.

Abstract: A molded-plastic retaining member is mounted within the gear case or other internal housing member of a power tool and is keyed thereto. Screws pass through openings in the gear case cover and are received axially in respective bosses formed within the retaining member, thereby securing the gear case cover to the gear case. The gear case cover is formed with an internal hub, and locating ribs on the retaining member radially engage the hub to prevent the retaining member from disengaging the gear case, as the gear case cover is secured to the retaining member. Preferably, the retaining member comprises a partially-formed resilient ring which is molded from a suitable plastic material and is deformable during the assembly operation. Additionally, the internal hub on the gear case cover is provided with a bearing boss, and a bearing is mounted therein for journaling the rear portion of the output spindle.
