Abstract: An adjustable clamping mechanism includes a slider block annularly disposed about a rod device within a mechanical press. The mechanism utilizes a press or interference fit connection between the components. During operation, high-pressure oil is injected into the location between the slider block and rod, thereby relieving the press fit and making it possible to have relative movement therebetween. An actuator causes selective linear displacement of the slider block along the longitudinal axis of the stationary rod during the release condition. Once the slider block is repositioned, the high-pressure oil is removed, which reactivates the press fit connection and causes the slider block to once again lock up against the rod and prevent movement therebetween.

Abstract: A self-lubricating connector or roller is formed by molding a laminated bearing insert in-situ within a nylon support or member. The connector provides a one-piece, self-lubricating device to replace conventional multiple-piece bearing assemblies which typically include a nylon member having an integral metallic sleeve rotatably engaged with a conventional needle or journal bearing. An alternate embodiment of the present invention includes a connector fabricated by press-fitting the laminated bearing insert into a member fabricated from a metallic material. The connectors or rollers of the present invention have several advantages over the prior art, including improved concentricity between the load bearing layer and roller, closer tolerances and elimination of parts and assembly steps.

  • Patent number: 6702502
Abstract: A ball-and-socket joint, preferably for motor vehicles, in which a joint ball formed on a pivot pin is mounted movably in a bearing shell consisting of a plastic, is presented. The bearing shell has recesses accommodating lubricant on its inner jacket surface facing the joint ball and is itself inserted into a housing. According to the present invention, the recesses may be grooves as a structural system with groove sections or depressions of microscopic size extending obliquely in relation to the central longitudinal axis of the ball-and-socket joint. Due to this novel design, a pumping effect is achieved during movements of the joint ball over the groove sections, and this pumping effect draws the lubricant present in the groove sections into the gap between the joint ball and the bearing shell, so that improved lubrication of the ball-and-socket joint compared with the state of the art is guaranteed under all operating conditions.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a wood-milling cutter. A circular cutter head includes a plurality of semicircular engaging grooves at the rim thereof for receiving a plurality of hilts with corresponding arched surface. A semicircular screw hole is formed in the middle of the top rim of the semicircular engaging grooves. A blade is received at the bottom of said hilt. A semicircular cavity corresponding to the semicircular screw hole of the cutter head is provided in the middle of the top of the hilt and equipped with an annular flange. Therefore, the semicircular screw hole and the semicircular cavity form a full circular hole to receive a trimming screw with an annular groove in the middle thereof. The annular flange of the semicircular cavity is engaged in the annular groove of the trimming screw while the threaded member of the trimming screw joins the semicircular screw hole of the semicircular engaging grooves.

Abstract: A cylindrical body has a first part-spherical socket portion in the top, fittingly receiving a ball. A ball retainer has a second part-spherical socket portion facing the first part-spherical socket portion and receiving the ball therein. A post has a proximal end fixed to the ball and extends radially outward from the ball and away from the body to a distal end, and has screw threads at the distal end to receive a fastener thereon for attachment of an object to the distal end of the post. The ball-in-socket mounting of the post enables freely swiveling the ball and thereby the swiveling the distal end of the post to an infinite number of loci in a spherical envelope centered at the center of the ball, as well as enabling the post, and any object mounted to the post, to be rotated on a radial line from the center of the ball to the location of mounting of the object to the post. The body has a hydraulic cylinder in the bottom receiving a piston.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for simulating static load of a connection to a ventilated rack of animal cages when at least one of the racks are not connected to a central ventilation system. Accordingly, the device assures that the ventilation system is balanced when one or more of the ventilated racks are removed from their respective air supply or exhaust drops of the central ventilation system. The device includes a pair of spring biased legs which automatically close when a rack is removed from the central air system. The legs have an outwardly curved shape at one end forming an opening between the first and second leg. In the closed position, ends of the legs are adjacent to one another such that the distance between the legs is reduced, thereby creating a partial obstruction to air flow in the connection which is identical to the static load created by the ventilated rack.
