  • Patent number: 5072601
Abstract: A precious stone setting, preferably for invisibly mounted diamonds, is obtained by forming cutouts on opposed facets of square-shaped diamonds with a saw which is held at a downwardly pointed angle relative to the tables of the diamonds. Forming the cutouts in this manner produces in the pavilions of the diamonds, below their girdles, upwardly pointed biting edges, and clearances above these edges. The diamonds thus prepared are set in a setting comprising walls which extend parallel to one another and which are spaced apart by approximately the same distance as the sharp edges. This enables the diamonds to be forcefitted between the walls of the setting and the upwardly pointed edges to bite into the walls of the setting and secure the diamonds in place. Any attempt to retrieve the diamonds causes the biting edges to bite even deeper into the walls and more securely entrench the diamonds in place.

Abstract: Two plastic tubelike members on which an annular protrusion or an annular groove are respectively provided to be used as two constructive block members for assembling valve or joint devices are directly coupled to assemble such devices. Critical dimensional relationships on the coupling end having the annular groove are established wherein a deformation process can be controlled to engage the annular groove with the annular protrusion by a radially widening motion and an axially spring motion in elastic dynamics, while the coupling end having the annular groove is softened by heating to become elastic. High coupling accuracy can be secured with high coupling strength and durability.

Abstract: A valve handle adaptor formed on one end with a shank configured for complemental telescopical receipt in a pocket formed in a valve handle and formed on its opposite extremity with an adaptor socket. A plurality of extenders, each formed on one end for receipt within such adapator socket and formed on the opposite end with an extender socket capable of receiving the shank of another extender or, in the alternative, a spud. A plurality of spuds are formed with external configurations for complemental receipt in the spud socket, adaptor socket or extender socket. The handle may be mounted directly from a valve stem through such spud, or through the adaptor by inserting the shank in the spud socket and a spud in the adaptor socket for receipt over a broach formed in the end of the valve stem, or through any number of extenders fitted between the adaptor and spud. The kit can therefore adapt a handle to a wide variety of broach sizes and offset distances.

Abstract: An eye device for a doll or the like which comes to the eye-closed state by placing the doll in a lying posture and then comes to the eye-open state by placing the doll in a standing or sitting posture. This device is firmly held onto the doll face to such a degree that even if the eye member is strongly pressed from the front side, there is no apprehension of the eye member detaching from its holding position on the doll face. To this end the eye device includes at least one circular engaging step portion on the periphery of an eyeball-mounting body and, optionally, at least one circular engaging groove and/or steps on an inner periphery of a mounting member whereby material of the doll face, sandwiched between the eyeball-mounting body and the mounting member, is engaged by the circular engaging step portion on the eyeball-mounting body and, optionally, also by the circular engaging groove and/or steps on the mounting member, thereby preventing detaching of the eye device.

Abstract: Hard metal cutters have the attachment portion of their axial length which is cylindrical in cross section, mechanically secured by a transition fit within cylindrical sockets provided in a suitable steel body, such as, for example, a rock drill bit; the cylindrical sockets contain a local circumferential band of deformed and compressed metal axially spanning the innermost cylindrical boundary of the maximum hard metal diameter upon assembly. This eliminates detrimental tensile stresses due to assembly; and provides a region of high compressive stress to reduce the effective fatigue loads during drilling.

Abstract: A push-on/quick release locking arrangement is mounted on a socket wrench extension or driver having a cylindrical body with a square drive end. An inclined transverse bore in the drive end intersects opposed flat faces of the drive end and lock balls are mounted in the bore for movement between a "lock" position and a "release" position. In the "lock" position one ball projects from the end of the bore nearest the end of the drive end to engage a cooperating cavity in the drive recess of a socket. In the "release" position the balls lie within the cross section of the drive end. There is an axial groove in the flat face intersected by the end of said bore further from the end of the drive end. A cylindrical grip sleeve is mounted for slideable movement on the cylindrical body of the extension. The end of said sleeve remote from the drive end is turned inwardly and an integral control tab projects from the other end of the sleeve.

Abstract: A fiberglass sucker rod construction is disclosed comprising a cylindrical fiberglass rod having a steel connector member adhesively bonded to each end thereof. The steel connector members are basically identical in their manner of being affixed to each end of the fiberglass rod, each connector member having an internal receptacle defining a series of tapered annular spaces for receiving an epoxy adhesive material which bonds the fiberglass rod in the metal connector member, thereby forming a unitary sucker rod having a male thread connector at one end and a mating female connector at the other end thereof. The epoxy adhesive cures, forming a sleeve having a series of annular tapering surfaces defining annular wedges that are oriented such that tension applied to the rod causes the wedges to be compressed between the rod and connector member, resulting in a radially inwardly directed force to retain the rod in position against such tension.
