Resilient Patents (Class 403/372)
  • Patent number: 4477204
Abstract: A modular cast concrete element of this invention, capable of being assembled with other, similar elements into a tubular underground installation (e.g., sewer duct, tunnel liner) has a well opening to each of its axially-facing end surfaces wherein a rod is received that is insertable in a like well in an axially adjacent element to guide one of the elements to a predetermined position relative to the other and lock it in that position. In each well is a securement member having an annular radially outer marginal portion confined in a circumferential radially inwardly opening groove in the well and having resilient radially inwardly projecting teeth. The teeth have radially inner edges on a circle of smaller diameter than the rod and are flexible axially to enable the rod to be easily inserted into the securement member but to engage it under convergent bias for holding it against withdrawal from the well.

  • Patent number: 4460540
Abstract: A burnable poison rod for use in a nuclear reactor fuel assembly which includes concentrically disposed rods having an annular space therebetween which extends the full length of the rods. The inner rod is hollow to permit circulation of coolant therethrough. Annular burnable poison pellets are positioned in the annular space which is closed at both ends by plugs. A spring clip is located in the plenum space above the pellet stack in the rods. The spring clip is of cylindrical configuration having a gap in the material which provides two ends adapted to be squeezed toward each other. A cross section of the clip shows that its ends contain alternating flat and round edges, the round edges conforming to the outer rod inner surface to provide a retentive force which is releasably applied to the pellet stack as it grows during operation in a reactor.

  • Patent number: 4050265
Abstract: A force-displacement controller knob for use in isometric control devices provided. A controller knob component is mounted on existing control shafts and the knob itself contains a pair of compressible, resilient washers separated by and contacting a rigid washer in a chamber in the knob so that force appied in any direction on the knob will be transferred to the control shaft in a resistance ratio determined by the compressibility of the resilient washers.

  • Patent number: 4025214
Abstract: A radially deformable clamping device including a cylindrical body having a central bore, a pair of inwardly extending annular grooves near the ends of the body and a pair of annular grooves extending outwardy from the central bore and spaced inwardly of the first pair of grooves. The grooves define a central portion and flexible zones to permit the central portion to be radially deformed. A plurality of equally spaced concentric axial bores extend from one end face of the body through the central portion. Slots extend between the plurality of bores and the central bore in the central portion. The bushing can be applied around the mandrel having a shoulder and a threaded end with a nut, the body being axially compressed between the shoulder and nut to cause radial deformation. A pin can be provided in one of the bores to prevent rotation of the body. In another embodiment, the plurality of bores extend entirely through the body and receive screws or bolts to cause the axial compression.

  • Patent number: 3995967
Abstract: For drivingly connecting the external cylindrical surface of an inner machine element to the internal cylindrical surface of an outer machine element, such as a shaft to a pulley, forward and rearward clamping rings are spaced axially apart from one another and have circumferentially spaced aligned bolt holes disposed parallel to the axis of their internal and external cylindrical surfaces. One ring has smooth bolt holes and the other ring has threaded bolt holes, these holes receiving threaded clamping bolts. Mounted in the space between the two clamping rings are pairs of alternately oppositely facing resilient coupling rings of substantially Z-shaped cross-section having bolt holes aligned with the clamping ring bolt holes. Each coupling ring consists of radially-spaced inner and outer annular rims connected at acute angles to the opposite ends of an annular web inclined at an oblique angle to the axis of the cylindrical outer and inner surfaces of these coupling rings.

Abstract: The wheelchair foot rest comprises a plate portion with a semi-cylindrical configuration journalling a tube in turn supported to the wheelchair such that the plate can swing from a horizontal position to a vertical position about the journalling axis. Axially slotted plastic friction sleeves surround the journalling tube in such a manner as to lock to the inner wall ends of the semi-cylindrical portion of the plate and frictionally engage the periphery of the journalling tube so that the plate is held in any set swung position.

  • Patent number: 3978945
Abstract: A brake disc mounting on a shaft in which a spacer is interposed between the disc and a pilot rib of the shaft to facilitate brake disc removal and reduce disc distortion effects. There may be an opening adjacent the spacer which provides for displacement of a portion of the spacer to accommodate the shrinkage. The spacer itself may provide for displacement caused by disc shrinkage. The spacer may be of a softer material than the disc or be resiliently deformable.

  • Patent number: 3978914
Abstract: A heat exchanger and mounting structure therefor for use in connection with incinerators, for example, the heat exchanger formed of a ceramic wheel with a central core and an annular portion with gas passages extending axially therethrough. The ceramic wheel is mounted at the central core with a mounting means which comprises first and second wedge members in abutting relationship with opposite sides of the core. Means bias the wedge members towards each other so that the core is resiliently held under compression between the two wedge members to eliminate tension stresses on the ceramic wheel due to thermal expansion differences between the ceramic wheel and the mounting structure therefor. The mounting structure includes a first shaft secured to the first wedge member and a second shaft, tubular in shape and concentrically mounted on the first shaft, the second shaft being secured to the second wedge member. The shafts are supported on the cool side of the heat exchanger wheel by a pair of bearings.
