Despite relatively tight fastening of the threaded fastener to the standoff shaft, the first and second beveled rings can accommodate object curvature by rotating in any of an X, Y, and/or Z dimension, as needed.

An accessory mounting device includes a cylindrical collar portion with a plurality of diametrically aligned holes arranged around the circumference. One of the clamping jaw members has an opening, sized to receive the collar portion and one pair of holes that can be aligned with the holes of the collar portion. When the mounting device is in a desired orientation, a pin is inserted through the aligned holes to hold the orientation. A locking nut is mounted on a threaded portion of the collar portion and, when tightened, tends to withdraw the collar portion against the pin, firmly securing the assembly together.

The clip element, which is attached to the bottom of the neck joint has a hooked shaped tip which will strike the front wall of the upwardly projecting portion of the base when the neck joint is tilted down about 20 degrees from the horizontal axis and as a result prevents further downward tilting movement. However, by manually flexing the clip element upward away from the front wall the neck joint can be tilted further downward so as to place the fan in a collapsed or folded position.

In drawing both ball joint members into the socket, the two ball joint members are urged together. The forces with which the arm portion is drawn into the socket determines frictional forces required to rotate each socket relative to the ball joint members as well as one ball joint member relative to the other ball joint member. A continuous passageway passes internally through the ball joint through which electrical wires may pass.

A coined detent surface on an exposed portion of the insert is engaged by another coined detent surface on the rigid support. A thumb screw holds the detent surfaces together, and allows for changing the position of the apparatus. All components including the printed circuit board are supported by the chassis which is supported only by the housing. Thus the plastic housing provides vibration and shock attenuation for the chassis and its associated components.
