Sealing Cap Or Filler Support Patents (Class 404/69)
  • Patent number: 4018539
Abstract: A modular expansion seal for use in roadways, bridges, and the like adapted for use with a pair of elongated, parallel, spaced-apart retaining members defining a gap therebetween and each of the retaining members having a generally C-shaped cavity opening towards said gap. The seal includes end walls for mounting within the aforesaid retaining member cavities and top and bottom walls extending between the end walls for spanning the aforesaid gap. Each end wall includes an outer surface configuration generally adapted for matching engagement with said cavity. However, the radius of curvature of the end wall in an unstressed, disassembled condition is less than the radius of curvature of the cavity so that upon assembly of the end wall within the cavity the outer curved wall position is forced to assume the curvature of the cavity resulting in a highly effective mounting of the end wall therein.

  • Patent number: 4015302
Abstract: A buried expansion joint for use in the construction of bridges incorporates a pad of flexible plastics material, such as neoprene, located over an expansion gap between structural members and a flashing of neoprene or other plastics material extending over the pad and stuck to the structural members by adhesive bedding. The pad may have channels or voids extending along its transverse dimension adjacent its edges which in conjunction with aligned grooves in its upper and lower surface provide a corrugated web section allowing compression longitudinally of the structural members without any substantial increase in vertical compressibility.

  • Patent number: 4007994
Abstract: An expansion joint with an elastomer seal having longitudinal frames made from aluminum extrusions extending longitudinally of an expansion joint for pavements and bridge decks. The longitudinal frames are mounted by anchor bolts in the pavement or bridge deck concrete, which pavement or bridge deck has a concrete or asphaltic wear surface. The elastomer seal is fixedly held in the longitudinal frames by elongated tongue and groove means, and the joint space is spanned by at least one shallow, V-shaped elastomer wall which deforms downwardly as the joint width becomes narrower. The longitudinal frames are held in position in steps in the concrete adjacent to the joint by the anchor bolts, at least some of which have threaded ends projecting upwardly through the bottom wall into an upwardly facing longitudinal channel.

  • Patent number: 3994609
Abstract: An expansion joint strip seal for use in roadways, bridges, buildings, and the like adapted for use with a pair of elongated, parallel, spaced apart edge members defining a gap therebetween and each of the edge members having a generally C-shaped cavity opening toward said gap. The seal includes mounting beads on each of its longitudinal edges for mounting within the aforesaid edge member cavities and a downwardly folding resilient web member spanning the aforesaid gap and being attached to the mounting beads. Each mounting bead is of tubular construction and includes an outer wall surface configuration generally adapted for matching engagement with said cavity.

  • Patent number: 3977802
Abstract: An expansion joint adapted to overlie and sealingly close an expansion gap between roadway bridge sections or the like and comprising an elastomeric membrane having an upstanding arch disposed across the gap. The arch has a corrugated configuration with the corrugations thereof extending laterally across the gap to impart substantial flexibility to the membrane so as to accommodate relative movement of the roadway sections in each of the vertical, longitudinal, and lateral directions. Side rails overlie the side edges of the membrane and anchor the membrane between the road sections.
