  • Patent number: 11262523
Abstract: A method for adhering a tubular body onto a surface that includes smoothing a portion of the surface to create a smoothed segment of the surface and applying a tubular body directly onto the smoothed segment of the surface after the smoothing of the portion of the surface. The surface at the smoothed segment is smoother than the remainder of the surface. The method further includes applying an uncured protectant onto the tubular body while the tubular body is on the smoothed segment of the surface and curing the uncured protectant into a cured protectant while the uncured protectant is on the tubular body on the smoothed segment of the surface. The cured protectant protectively encases and adheres the tubular body to the surface.

  • Patent number: 9340931
Abstract: A method and system for treating and strengthening material filling a pothole. One or more electron accelerators can be integrated with a mobile unit. The electron accelerators are positioned on the mobile unit to heat, irradiate and treat in-situ, both the base material and a material filling a pothole located proximate to the mobile unit, wherein irradiation of the material by the electron accelerators results in in-situ cross-linking or polymerization of the material and therefore a strengthening and increased durability of the material filling the pothole. Deep heating of the substrate allows pothole repair even under extreme low temperature winter conditions. The in-situ treatment of the material filling the pothole in a road surface to toughens and strengthens the road surface and the filled pothole which results in improved material properties of the surface, enhanced durability, and improved lifetime of the pothole fill.

Abstract: An infrared asphalt heating and repair apparatus includes a converter having downward facing slits cut therein to provide enhanced durability over prior art ceramic blanket or metal ribbon style heaters. In embodiments, the slits are cut by a milling machine, which may be an automatic milling machine, a band saw, or a laser. Embodiments also provide for more uniform heating over prior art solutions, while largely preventing damaging and costly flame-through events. Because the heat is more uniform than that of the prior art, lower temperatures can be used to achieve similar results, thereby extending equipment life, lowering fuel costs, and reducing warm-up times.

Abstract: A product and method for repairing holes and cracks in roads, parking lots, sidewalks and other similar surfaces using a mixture of powder coating (i.e. dry paint) and a filler. The first step is to obtain the powder coating material. Any suitable powder coating material may be used, however, it is preferable to use the excess or waste powder coating material obtained from a powder coating operation. The next step is to mix the powder coating material with a filler, such as sand, pea gravel, or another suitable material. After the components are mixed together, it is applied to a surface needing repair such as a pothole in a road or a crack in a sidewalk. The mixture is cured by heating the mixture to the point where the powder coating melts and binds the powder coating with the filler and the surface needing repair. It may be cured before or after it is applied to the surface needing repair. After the mixture cures, the result is a high quality patched surface.

The upper plate fasteners couple the upper screed plate to the frame portion independently of the lower screed plate, so the lower plate is displaceable from the upper plate and the frame portion.

  • Patent number: 8137025
Abstract: An asphalt-paved road surface is rejuvenated in a multi-stage recycling process. The first process stage involves grinding, to a selected depth and width, a first strip portion of the surface and transporting it away from the site. The second process stage involves heating and grinding, to a selected temperature and depth, the upper layer of a second strip portion and moving it to the first strip portion to expose a lower layer. The third process stage involves heating and grinding, to a selected temperature and depth, the exposed lower layer of the second strip portion and moving it to the first strip portion. New asphalt is then added to rejuvenate the recycled asphalt and to maintain the grade elevation. The mixture is then placed back on the road surface using conventional means.

  • Patent number: 8133540
Abstract: This application relates to a method of applying a thermally settable coating to a patterned substrate, such as an asphalt surface. The coating is applied in one or more preformed thermoplastic sheets and heated in situ to conform the thermoplastic material to the pattern formed in the underlying substrate. In one embodiment of the invention a pattern is formed in the asphalt surface using a removable template which is impressed into the asphalt when it is in a pliable state. The pre-formed sheets are then applied to the patterned surface and gradually heated. In an alternative embodiment of the invention the template is impressed into the pre-formed sheet and asphalt surface simultaneously after the sheet has been heated to a suitable temperature in situ. A bond reduction agent may be used to minimize adhesion between the template and the heated thermoplastic material.

Abstract: A method of applying building a pavement structure using a polymer modified hot-applied tack coat is disclosed. This polymer modified tack coat is non-adhesive at ambient temperatures, and, thus, also non tracking. The tack is applied while hot, but cools quickly. The subsequent application of hot mix asphalt results in a superior bond between the asphalt layer and the tack layer. It is particularly well suited to bonded friction course applications since it removes the necessity of specialized spray paving machinery and allows the use of conventional asphalt distributors and pavers.
